Ramblings.....

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Apr 06, 2015 5:55 pm

Man, I love baseball. Even more, I love the fantasy game that goes with it.
I watch the game constantly. But, have to admit that without the fantasy juice that goes with it, I would not.
There is always something to talk about during a game.
Today, I was watching games with a buddy and he did a near collapse when David Price was getting taken out of his game.
A shutout in his league made for more points. On the other hand, I was cheering, knowing this was a Save that even Joe Nathan couldn't screw up.
When we draft fellas like Nathan, we want a lot of front end Saves, knowing that some time during the season, the Grim Reaper will come calling and Nathan turns into a pumpkin.

Roger Martin and I were sharing a laugh over Kyle Kendrick being an Opening Day pitcher.
Of course, he throws a shutout for seven innings. We all saw that coming.
And still, somehow, I don't see big FAAB bucks being spent on Kendrick next week.
Man, it sure is fun watching CarGo and Tulo when healthy. Hurry and watch them, before you can't.

I was listening to the Kansas City radio guys while watching their game.
Mike Moustakas hit a homer and one of the radio guys says, "Fellas, a historical moment just occurred. That is the first time that Moustakas has ever hit a home run to left field."
Historical? What? C'mon.
On the next pitch, Jeff Samardzdjdjzdjzia hit Lorenzo Cain with a pitch.
Reading between the lines, Samardzjdzjdzia was saying, "SCREW YOUR F***ING HISTORICAL!"

Bartolo Colon outpitched Max Scherzer. Not really. But, that is what it'll look like.
Ian Desmond didn't trust Dan Uggla to catch a pop up, dropped it himself, and runs ensued.
Desmond was like a male in a co-ed softball game covering for a girl.
As of this writing, the Desmond/Uggla pairing are 0 fer 6 and look like 'The Odd Couple' on the field.
Is it just me, or does Uggla look every bit of a Major League player UNTIL a baseball move is required.

Didi Gregorius tried to steal third base with two outs and his team down 6-1 in the 8th inning.
Seriously.
I couldn't help but think that maybe Mom had Didi on her fantasy team and Didi was just being a good son.
Or maybe Didi was serious when he said he would play his own game, not Derek Jeter's.

Clay Buchholz threw seven shutout innings today.
Seven.
I know, I know, it shouldn't be a big deal.
I know.
But, I owned Buchholz last year.
And if you owned Buchholz last year, you know what I went through.
Last year, owning Clay Buchholz was like having a wife that is a porn star.
Buchholz, like that wife would get pounded each time going out to work. There was no satisfaction at all for us!
Buchholz still collected his big money! Still considered a star! Still has integrity.
Just like the porn star wife, he was drilled on a consistent basis.
He still wears a smile. So did she. We want to cry.
And when we check out the stats or take out our ding dong for the wife, we are quickly reminded that we don't measure up.
We're powerless.
We could divorce ourselves from Buchholz, but we know that the minute we do, he'll start performing.
We could divorce the porn star wife, but know that somehow, we'll miss her and may even succomb to buying one of her movies.
Pathetic.

Mike Trout hit a homer and took one away today.
Business as usual.

Big loser? The Brewers. They lost at home 10-0 to KYLE KENDRICK.
Then, probably lost Ryan Braun for awhile for good measure.

The Red Sox had five homers.
If owning Red Sox or Rockies or Royals players, you probably have an early lead in your league.

Rockies tv guys were hilarious in not a good way today.
They kept pointing to CarGo and Tulo's body shapes and kept saying in what good shape they looked to be in.
I think they were trying to paint a picture that these players would be healthy all year.
It came across as maybe, a little TOO admiring :D

Joey Votto did not walk today.

No pitchers left the game with thoughts of Tommy John.

Announcers never predict a bad year for ANY player.
None.
Announcers would suck at fantasy baseball.
On air, they are sunshine, rainbows, and butterflies.
We would just like the truth, please.

Announcers were all over Bryce Harper after his homer today.
'MVP' mentioned several times.
Forgetting that atop of the shoulders of that talented body is the antidote for that body.

Does ESPN think that fans do not know where the strike zone is?
Or where the ball crosses the plate?
Get rid of that stupid box!

If buying Peralta OR Hatcher today.... You're a winner.

No Closer clobbered...unusual for Opening Day.

This was written before the night games.

May the rest of your Opening Day be as good as mine!
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

You are in mid-season form on opening day, Doughy. Two brilliant posts in a row. I am writing a review of my ME team right now. My goal is an honest evaluation, but I'm not sure I could be as honest as you were in evaluating your "rookie" team.
