Just Walk Away, Rene

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Tue Sep 22, 2015 10:24 am

Some things piss me right off. I don't even know why sometimes. But, they do.
Here is what set me off today....

'Rene Rivera said Monday that he's disappointed with his playing time with the Rays.
Rivera was expected to be the primary catcher for the Rays after coming over in the Wil Myers deal, but he lost his starting job after a miserable first half and now the Rays are giving opportunities to J.P. Arencibia and Luke Maile. "I feel like if you are going to give the opportunity to a guy, you should stick with him and help him get through slumps," said Rivera. "The first half I played a lot and I didn't do right as a hitter. But I feel like the second half would be better, and I didn't have the chance to do it."

AW C'MON!
You had three months of being the starting catcher in Tampa.
THREE MONTHS!
You didn't go through 'slumps'. You had one continual, long assed slump.
In May, you had one-hit in games played on the 25th, 26th, and 27th. That, that was your longest hitting 'streak' of the season!
There were times in some Draft Championship teams when I was deciding to play a dl'ed Mesoraco or average sucking Rivera.
Think about that. I was deciding whether no stats at all would be better than playing Rivera!
And most of the time, Mesoraco had a better week!

Rivera thinks Tampa owes him another chance.
He hit .149 in April. He hit .172 in May. He hit .174 in June.
If we were to equate baseball life to real life, Rivera has failed at even flipping burgers.
And soon, us taxpayers would be paying for him as he goes on to be an unemployeed or a welfare statistic.

You had your chance, Rene Rivera!
A chance that every catcher at many levels would love to have.
A shot at being the starting catcher for a Major League franchise.
There's no 'do over'!
You blew it.
You sucked.
The team is not at fault for not giving you another chance.
YOU, YOU are at fault for sucking at your job.
And if I were any of the other GM's in baseball, I would know that you can't take responsibility for sucking and not even think about hiring you at a later time.

Rivera aspired to have a Mario Mendoza average.
Being called 'below average' would have been taken as a compliment!
In April, like having a new toy, Tampa played Rivera in every game played, but one.
Rivera hit .149 while giving the Rays next to zero productivity.
In May, Tampa wised up and gave Rivera more rest.
In June, even more.
Till now, it is Tampa taking a rest from Rivera.

Ralph Branca would like another chance.
So would Scott Norwood.
So would George Custer.
They don't get one.
Each had more success earlier in thrir careers than Rivera.
Each, only remembered for their last acts.
Unlike Rivera, their 'suckage' did not last long.
One pitch for Branca. One kick for Norwood. I don't know how long a scalping took for Custer.
Rivera's 'moment' was for three months.
And luckily, his suckage didn't effect teammates like Branca, Norwood, and Custer's did.
Still, he sucked and should own it.
But doesn't.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Yes, thank you! this pissed me off too! Glad to see someone else caught this offensive nugget amongst the daily news and notes of fantasy baseball. I literally LOL'd at this quote when I read it on rotoworld.

Hey Rivera -- I dropped you 3 weeks into the season, which by my count was 2 weeks later than you deserved to be rostered! Mad at me too?
