The Mets Jell is the Tell

The more I think I know about baseball, the less I really do know about the sport.
Until September, I didn't think there was any way the Mets would be in the World Series.
Yes, they had those great young arms.
Yes, they had an overachieving Closer.
And yes, they got some clutch hitting from different men in the lineup.
Still, I felt the best part of the Mets was their broadcasting team.

As a baseball fan, I keep forgetting what a team looks like early and even in the middle of a season doesn't matter. The Mets have jelled at the right time and are now the National League Champions. They are in the same position as the Royals were in last year in facing San Francisco. They were not supposed to be there, but through the strength of pitching (the bullpen being KC's strength) and timely hitting, they made it to the big stage.

In effect, some teams are better suited for the season long game, while others benefit from the tourney or short series format.
Is there any team that hates the daily game more than the Pittsburgh Pirates?
I'm not a fan of any one team, but I admire the Cardinals organization. At the same time, the Cardinals do not have a pitching strength like last years Royals or this years Mets. The Cards, much better suited for the season long game over the tourney format.

I felt the Cubs made some big mistakes going into the playoffs. I felt that Schwarber was a key for them. Not on offense, but defense. He was an absolute butcher in left field, and really, was that way all year. I felt he should have been catching anybody not named Lester, in order to get Coghlan's bat in the lineup and more importantly, Schwarber's glove out of left field.
Those that are drafting Schwarber in the second or third round in fantasy drafts for next year have to fear the Schwarber will be a platoon player first, and second lose time with his horrible defense.
Dan Haren would have been a better choice for this format over Jason Hammel as well.

Still, it probably wouldn't have made a difference. The Mets steamrolled the Cubs and are firing on all cylinders.
They'll take Daniel Murphy's hot streak, but really, even without it, the Mets would have won that series.
In a current fantasy draft, almost every Mets offensive player has been taken by the 11th round. In my eyes, that is the current hotness of the Mets beckoning, not the long season Mets reality.

So, who do I think will win the World Series?
I don't know.
If the Blue Jays beat the Royals, I believe the Mets pitching will beat Toronto. With Price being a normal pitcher during the playoffs, the Jays do not have a dominant pitcher starting, or in the bullpen. I feel they are the weakest team of the three teams left in the tourney format.
The Royals could give the Mets a better Series. They have an offense that better suits facing the Mets starters and a bullpen that can finish games if getting ahead.
That would be the Series I would look more forward to.
I'll be thinking of those diehard Mets fans that are in the NFBC family each time a Met performs well during the World Series.
Like their Mets, they are a resiliant bunch!

I will go out on a limb, here. The Mets will win in 5 games. MVP of the series will be Matt Harvey. Daniel Murphy will hit 2 more HRs.

If for some reason, my prediction is wrong and the Mets lose, at least we can all agree, there is a core of young pitching in Queens that will be around for a long time and keep the Mets relevant for a long time. Yes, they are playing with house money now, with no one expecting them to be here, but why not win it all?
