Breakfast with Sam...

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Dec 04, 2015 11:01 am

My brain on the way to a breakfast meeting.....

I hardly ever eat breakfast.
Most important meal.
Man, lunch and dinner are probably pissed at breakfast.
What makes him so important?
inner can probably kick breakfast ass.
Hand him his lunch, sorta speak...
Ok, 32nd round and I'm one pick away...
Still only have one reliever...
Screw it, that ship has sailed.
Maybe Storen can get the job and me two or three points in Saves
Papelbon and Storen, what a couple of babies...
Ok, Best offense on the board...
Wow, we're talking guys like LaRoche, Hardy, Chisenhall, and Micah Johnson...
Most of the meat is off that bone...
Almost makes crappy relievers sound good
I need depth though.
My earlier pick of Jed Lowrie makes me nervous...
More than nervous.
Lowrie is as helpless as a glass bowl in a room of four year olds...
There, I'm up and taking Chisenhall...
Man, that was stupid...
Making a pick to make up for another pick...
What an idiot...
How long is this freakin' red light?
And now the guy in front of me is talking on his cell instead of moving through the green light!
C'MON!
Sombitch better be drafting...
I think I'll take Jesus Montero with the next pick.
I don't trust LaRoche and this is more for depth anyway.
LaRoche likes to talk about hunting with Chipper.
Shoot, the way he hits now, he may as well retire too.
Montero has something to prove.
And trading Morrison and Trumbo...it is like they are clearing a path for him..
Unless they sign Chris Davis...
Hmm, Montero could still DH
It's round 33, I don't have much to lose here and he could break out.
I do like that Mazara kid from Texas though..
He could be the real deal and that Texas outfield sucks...
Yeah, Mazara.
Sombitch it's cold!
20 degrees. Should of stayed in California.
Looks like I'm first here for breakfast.
Better check and see if I'm up in the draft.
Who knew these cell phones would be so handy?
Before them, I woudda turned down breakfast and just drafted.
CRAP! He took Mazara.
HE TOOK MAZARA!
That dirty &&#%!!!!
This is why I hate that 'sleeper' word!
Everybody knows everybody!
Makes me want to go to a yahoo league!
Damn NFBC'ers!
Ok, let's go with Montero.
Note to self- Compare Mazara and Montero's stats at the end of the year.
Yeah right.
As if I'll even remember.
Here comes my breakfast partner, Sam.
He doesn't follow baseball.
Maybe I should have taken Hardy?
When I draft 50 players and don't question one of them, I'll retire.
Sam's talking about his wife and her aches and pains.
I can't retire and talk about my wife's achs and pains.
I got enough problems with Lowrie!
I drafted Jed Lowrie! Don't tell me about aches and pains!
My mouth is answering Sam's question and I'm wondering if Hardy will be there in 24 picks.
Yeah, I doubt it.
Wow, that's some guts, Sammy. Asking me about how fantasy baseball is going!
I'll just say "Fine". Anything else would bore him to tears.
Like me asking him how his wife's hip is doing.
He did go on about that for five minutes though.
He would deserve it.
Nah.
I'll post on the Boards when I get home...
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Awesome. Love it. I can so relate. Not only does everything around us (breakfast, Sam, hip) become less relevant when a draft is happening, the players we are considering gain and lose importance drastically. You have your eyes on a certain SP and as your pick gets closer and closer that pitcher is getting close to Cy Young status in your mind. Somehow you are convinced that the 99 mph fastball will suddenly result in a higher k rate. Somehow you are convinced that this is the year that he will stop walking so many batters. The change in scenery will surely be a good thing.

And then for me there is the phenomenon of who takes who. Gekko takes this SP target just before my pick.....dang it, I was right, he is Cy Young status, should have taken him last round. Mikey takes him.....whoa, guess I was wrong on this guy! Ah...the mind games of a draft.

Breakfast is the best. I know there are a few out in Colorado, but if you ever get through Georgia, I will introduce you to Waffle House. Diner style breakfast. Grits (hereinafter referred to a as "God's Food") bacon, sausage, eggs, shredded hash browns (the ones that scream "ketchup") scattered, covered, smothered, diced, chunked (i.e. all the things you can add to your hash browns like onions, peppers, ham), and yes waffles.

Hmmmmm.....breakfast.

The local Waffle House has gotten kind of used to me, the village idiot. When asking if I want my regular (order scrambled, cheese, grits, wheat toast, bacon, hot tea), the response I may give may be "You know, Chris Sales elbow could hold up one more season, right?" They just shake their heads ruefully and pity my poor wife.

This is a bit of an exaggeration of course (Southerners are known for it), but I get your point Dan. No matter where we are in day-to-day life, baseball is always running in my mind....I call it my sub-process....mocksterbating, thinking, reviewing, lamenting....

Did I mention I like breakfast?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
