Is it good enough to contend?

Post by Dyv » Sat Apr 04, 2009 7:22 pm

I really liked how this came together... missing a quality 3rd option at closer and some depth at SP, but that's what FAAB is for:

C: Doumit 8.04

C: Baker 24.04

1b: Howard 1.09

2b: Uggla 7.09

3b: Arod 3.09 (80%)/Josh Fields 25.09 (20%)

SS: Aviles 17.09

CN: Fielder 4.09

MI: Burriss 19.09

OF: Granderson 5.09

OF: Abreu 6.04

OF: Milledge 12.04

OF: V. Wells 13.09

OF: Maybin 15.09

U: Sandoval 18.04 (3b if Arod out longer/C backup late)

Bch: David Murphy 22.04/Felix Pie 27.09/Marcus Thames 29.09

SP: Lincecum 2.04

SP: F. Hernandez 9.09

SP: Kazmir 10.04

SP: Kershaw 16.04

SP: C. Young 20.04

SP: Joe Saunders 21.09

SP: Jonathan Sanchez 23.09

RP: K. Wood 11.09

RP: C. Ray 14.04

RP: Nunez 26.04

RP: R. Soriano 28.04

RP: J. Devine 30.04

Any thoughts/critique welcome.

I have to agree with GG on this one.

Fielder at 4.9

Sandoval at 18.4

These are not CBS leagues, how did you pull that off?

also Uggla at 7.9 was a steal!

I also think the Burris pick is going to be a good one.

This team is very good with outstanding balance all he way around. It's the best online championship team posted so far. Remember these teams are just paper teams, and I am far from an expert.

Just my opinion

That is amazing on both Fielder and Sandoval.

Damn i took Fielder at 3 round pick 3 and was happy.

Sandoval went in the 13th and i thought that was late.

dave - we are all jealous of where u got sandoval, but using him at utility kinda negates his 18th round value. billy butler is going around there and should put up simialr numbers.

now, if sandoval gets his catcher's patch, that is a nice windfall for you.

Prince was definitely a gift..

1 closer in a 12 teamer = 1 pt in SV's...

But you have some quality RP's that could end up closing ....maybe

Ray and Wood are closers, that makes 2. Also Nunez is starting off as the closer for Florida, isn't he?

The pitching staff looks strong to me...lots of wins and k's. What else are we looking for here. If this team is not rock solid, I would like to see some other teams.

Wow...can someone else give this team some feedback. Am I wrong about this team?

I'm not King Felix or Kazmir fans this year, so with those 2 on your staff, that sends up red flags for me.

I'm sure hoping Ray is the closer, as I have him all over the place and Sherrill seemingly gave him the job through the media.

With Wood's injury history, why not back him up up instead of taking a 30th round flyer on a pitcher who is on the 60 day DL? In both my On-Line drafts his back-up was not taken.

Great value on Pablo! I took him in the 11th & 15th in my On-Lines.

We actually did this draft the day before Devine was put on the DL, so you know, a day later I would have changed... then again, which of the motley collection of arms WOULD close in Cleveland if Woods missed any time?

I drafted Sandoval with the intent that I'd put him in at 3b if Arod had a longer term absence and/or Fields struggled, but clearly if he gets catcher eligibility I'll have to push Baker to the side and move him there.

Putting together the team is half the battle, at best - there's a LOT more to do, but it felt good to get a decent start.

I'm actually banking on the statistic that closers go through about 20% turnover during the course of a season so that I can pick up a little help in that area.

No love for Felix and Kaz? Worried about their innings at their age? The potential here is nice, but no question injuries will hurt us all at some point.

Good job Dave! Like others have said getting Fielder and Sandoval that late is very nice.

Here's hoping that when A-Rod comes back he puts up his usual good numbers and stays healthy as I have him also on one on-line championship team and my mixed auction team. ;)

Well, since Devine was drafted before the news, yeah, great flyer. Bummer news like that comes one day after the draft. I'm hoping Jensen Lewis steps in if Wood goes down, took him as a late round flyer in a few drafts.

I'm with you about closers and their turnover rate, I love working FAAB and trying to get the next closer a few weeks before he takes over.

King Felix burned me one year, so I harbor ill feelings :D !! Kaz, I've heard rumblings that he is off. In a Keeper Lg I traded him for Brett Anderson this summer...a few league members complained I gave away too much and protest to the commish...I loved the trade then and still love it!

Let the games begin!!!

But in all seriousness.. .Ray can end up with the job in 2 months and Nunez will get some early cheap saves since Lindstrom will not throw on back to back days for the first few weeks....

I thought Ray was closing?

Not weeks from now...he is the closer for today's game, isn't he?

w No official word from the O's that I have seen says Ray is the closer. Sherrill stated to the media he would have "no problem" if Ray started the season as closer. It could be days before BALT sees a save situation and we actually find out. ;)

WOW...I'm quite interested in who starts warming up, if the score happens to stay 6-3 going into the 9th!

I have both Ray ad Sherrill on different teams...but would prefer Ray.

Exciting to see who wins the draft day guessing game!
