'I Don't Know' Is On Third

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Dec 23, 2011 9:07 am

I've been doing fantasy baseball a long time. A problem has come up for me that I've never experienced before.
I don't like any player at 3b. I feel like a guy just starting a 500 mile trip with his yakking mother-in-law. After five miles, he knows that the yakking won't stop and he also knows that coming ahead is a steep embankment that'll make the trip a lot shorter.

Here's the deal. I don't like injury riddled players and last year nobody got hurt like third basemen.
Here's a list of 3b that hit the dl last year.....
Pablo Sandoval
Scott Rolen
Brandon Inge
David Wright
Evan Longoria
Jayson Nix
Adrian Beltre
Chipper Jones
Jed Lowrie
Brett Lawrie
Alex Rodriguez
Kevin Youkilis
Miguel Tejada
Martin Prado
Pedro Alvarez
Placido Polanco
Ryan Zimmerman
Mark DeRosa
Jeff Baker
Juan Uribe
Mark Teahen
Eric Chavez
Chris Davis
Nick Punto
Chone Figgins
Daviv Freese
Ty Wigginton

It would have been easier to list the 3b that didn't go all dl on us.
Here are the top 3b that didn't need the dl last year....
Bautista
Ramirez
Young

Well there you have them. Bautista played right field a lot. Young dh'ed. And Ramirez spent most of his time in '09 and '10 on the disabled list.
Picking a third baseman is like voting for President. We're not really voting FOR somebody, as much as selecting between the lesser of two evils, or in this case, many evils.
For the risk averse, too bad. Unless targeting Bautista or Young, your third baseman will be as tainted as everybody elses (shuddup spellchecker!) third baseman.

So getting back to our poor chap on a journey with his barking mother-in-law, do we wait and try to get a supposed bargain and endure 3b going off the Boards.
Or do we take a Bautista, Wright, or somebody else off the bat to put an end that endless voyage with our mother-in-law before listening to her much.
The embankment is approaching and that decision has to be made.
At the least, looking at third basemen has relieved anxieties about catchers.

A great trivia question for your local fantasy baseball buds though.
Name the top, full time third baseman who didn't land on the disabled list last year.
I doubt many have 'Aramis Ramirez' on the tip of their tongue.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
