It Was Still Good For Me, Ann!

I am hoping I get my thoughts across properly in this post.
Remember those bumper stickers that said, 'My worst day fishing is better than my best day at work'?
Well, me and 13 others are mercifully finishing up a slow draft that has been miserable. This draft demonstrated how one fella could control a draft of this kind, enough to make it less than pleasant for others.
This isn't common. It doesn't happen much and I post a lot, so if it had happened with folks who don't frequent the Message Boards, maybe this wouldn't even be common knowledge.
But, it should be common knowledge. When one person makes it miserable for others, it is like a new restaurant opening in town. Word of mouth is very important. Word gets passed around that the beef and chicken dishes are delicious, but avoid the fish. Same here. Just don't avoid the fun of going to the restaurant, just the one item.
This all said, the fishing/work bumper sticker holds true. Even though miserable waiting for one selfish drafter to relinquish his all day hold on the clock, it is still a draft. And, if it's a draft, something is ok.
Slow drafts are wonderful. I love them. I've been in five already this year and only had a bad experience in one. Most have NEVER had a bad experience. It's the way it should be. Slow drafting is a wonderful prelude to the fast drafting season. Something to while away time during the cold winter months. I'm not letting a bad experience keep me from participating in more drafts. I'll just know that if I see HIS name on a slow draft list, that I will avoid that list.
I'm looking forward to the fast drafting season. For newbies, if you're reading this you've come to the right place. For one thing, we get paid, and we get paid promptly. You'll be drafting against the very best. I got a PM from a new player who was a little leery of the competition. I told him a bad finish in the NFBC was like making love to Ann-Margret, then having Miss Margret call the presses to tell everybody what a bad lover you were.
So what? You were bad. But, you still got to make love with the dream girl of your life.
The point of this post is that not everything is going to go right. Not even for some of us veterans.
But, at the end of the day, it's the best place in the world to play fantasy baseball. It is run by a person(s) who cares. It has the best competition in the world. And nobody, not even a guy who sits on a slow clock for seven hours a day, will ever change the feeling I get when competing and playing here.
And that, is what the new folks should take away from this post.
And who knows, maybe, just maybe, after the season closes, Ann-Margret will call tabloids to tell them she has just had the best she's ever had.
