Sunday, Bloody Sunday

The Yahoo Kid dies in the NFBC.
The Yahoo Kid can play in home leagues and free leagues, and even leagues with nominal fees. But, he can't play here.
The reason why is Sunday's and Monday's.
While the Yahoo Kid can forget to pick somebody up in his leagues and just give himself a mental slap in the face, in the NFBC, it could be a lost opportunity that turns a season.

For me, Sunday's are bittersweet. I'm a veteran, so I know the approximate values of each free agent. Still, with five teams needing faab, it takes me three hours of work. This doesn't include the peaking in of matchups or other stats I like to look up 'on my own time.
The three hours is work. If you're reading this, you know how much work it is. People outside the hobby think it's all just following our favorite players. They don't see us on Sunday's.
Our teams usually don't hinge on getting the players we bid for, but some times it makes our fantasy life a lot easier.

My wife calls me 'crabby' on Sundays during the season. She's right. Sometimes she even asks if it's worth it. When I say no, I know it'll be time to move on from the hobby. It's especially tedious at this time of year. We have no tendencies on the field as yet. A batter could hit second one day, eighth the next. And for some reason, if he hits second on Sunday, it seems to carry a little more wait.
It gets easier as the season goes on. Platoons for certain players manifest themselves. Managers are easier to read. And it becomes more of a faab of matchups and two start pitchers than picking and hoping.

Setting our lineups on Monday is a little more pleasant a lot less time consuming. We are looking at 30 players per team, not a waiver wire that has Tommy Milone and Sam Malone. We get to see the fruits of our labor on Monday, and whether 'the new guy' is worthy enough to make our lineup.
For some reason, I always give an edge to the new guy playing. Maybe it's for the personal pat on the back of being right in plucking that player off the junk heap or maybe you feel the team needs a spark in his specialized category and he fills the bill.

We all used to be the Yahoo Kid. We came from leagues that could be put on a back burner. In a way, I envy him.
But, I know he envy's us more.
We're one of the best in our hobby and we have a lot on the line. The Sunday's are a necessary evil that hopefully make the rest of the week an unequaled joy.
When we quit playing here, we can go back to being the Yahoo Kid. The Yahoo Kid, can never quit and become one of us.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
