Closers

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed Apr 25, 2012 12:28 pm

Closers are so funny/not funny.
And either way, tragic.
We have to egg ourselves on to even take two in our drafts.
If there was a pitching judy, it would be the closer.
We'' overdraft a Kenley Jansen or Aroldis Chapman, sure that a Manager will come to his senses or that they will pitch themselves into the spot. No such luck.
We'll take Soria, or Bailey, or Santos, or Farnsworth confident that we have the category covered, only to find out later that nothing could be farther from the truth.
Nothing goes for more money on faab than prospects and closers.

Even when we have closers we're afraid.
We're afraid that Marmol will not throw a strike.
We're afraid that Capps will.
We're afraid Walden will be called in with a four run lead.
We're afraid Hanrahan will go two weeks without a sniff of a save.

We don't trust Guerra.
We don't trust Perry.
We don't trust League.

They're ok, but they don't dominate. They merely have the job.
Only a few closers dominate and they cost a high draft pick.
Usually, when deciding between dominating closer and five category offensive player, the offense usually wins.

Closers are unlike any position in sports. In no other sport is somebody only called on in the last few minutes of the game. Even a kicker in football kicks off and is of use during the game.
Not the closer.
He can take a nap for two hours as the game unwinds.
At the same time, they are the shoelaces to the starters shoes.
And for our teams, the undotted 'i' or uncrossed 't'.
They end games, but they're never our end game.
Our thoughts on closers are probably similar to how Major League hitters think of closers-
Closers are a major pain in the ass.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
