Plain Talk

I miss plain talk.
Political correctness rules the day.
It's why I like posts from headhunters.
No bullshit, just straight from the hip thoughts.
Anybody who talks to the press, speaks in circles. You'd think that every player is every other players and Managers best friend.
Bah!
I miss the days when Steinbrenner would get so fed up with his players that he'd call them out individually in the press. Steinbrenner was only voicing what fans at Yankee Stadium had been yelling for a week.
Here's some plain talk that we'll never be able to hear again.
This is a quote from Casey Stengel to a player being sent down to the minors before the season begins-
"Son, we'd like to keep you around this season, but we're trying to win a pennant'"
Jim Leyland has had it up to here waiting on Ryan Raburn to hit. In fact, he's been disappointed with Raburn, Boesch, Avila, and Peralta.
He's old school and he wants to say that these players are not helping his club.
He's come close, especially with Raburn, but he can't.
He knows that today's political correctness in treating a player as somebody elses (shuddup spell checker, everybody says it, but nobody prints it) 12 year old kid rules the day.
Back in the day, Leyland would have sent Raburn down and benched Boesch as a warning to other players.
Not now.
Managers and coaches have a phrase for it.
It's called 'Coach speak'.
A different language for the press when talking about players.
Too bad.
As owners of these same players, we're not under a gag order.
We can say that Ichiro sucks and wished he weren't on our team. Which is probably what the Mariners are thinking, but of course, can't say.
We don't have to be mean with plain talk.
It's not like I want a player to say, 'His wife looks like Greg Ambrosius with tits'.
At the same time, I wouldn't mind them saying, 'He hits like Greg Ambrosius, left handed.'
All of us are different. Some of us respond to hand holding, some respond to a kick in the ass.
Through the press, hand holdings are running at about 100 per cent.
Hopefully, some of these guys are getting kicked in the ass in the privacy of a Manager's office.
If not, maybe THEY are the ones playing fantasy baseball.
