Trade Deadline

I'm a little disappointed there is no 'Trade Deadline' thread on the top subject line.

Hanley, Victorino, and Pence certainly beefs up the NL West. And should make for a great race down the wire between the Giants and Dodgers.

I am hoping that there'll be a blockbuster that'll blow everybody away. It's a fun time.
Fantasy wise, do the deals help very many players?
We don't know. Some players take to new teams like a flea to a dog.
Does Geo Soto's numbers get better the rest of the year? The winds have only blown out six times during the year at Wrigley. He'll be going to a home run park in a dynamite lineup.
BUT, can he hit AL pitching AND how much time does he get behind the plate?
And this was a minor deal, comparatively.
There are questions everywhere.
Pence and Victorino go to larger parks. It hurts Pence more than Victorino since Victorino is more of a speed/gap hitter.
For Pence owners, a worse park, but maybe a rejuvenation. That is what he provided when he went to the Phils. Maybe it'll be deja vu all over again.

What about you?
Any trade thoughts?
As I write this, the deadline is an hour and 20 minutes away.
What do you think?

I know a lot of pitchers have changed hands up till the deadline.
Greinke, Dempster, Wandy, Liriano, Anibal, etc and the teams that these pitchers are going to are all hoping that they got this year's Doug Fister.
Going out on a limb, I don't think any of these pitchers will show better for their new teams. At best, they will be the same as they were for their old teams.
Liriano in a smaller park with a new pitching philosophy gives me little hope.
Dempster will be going to the A.L. and an even better hitter's park.
Wandy is going to be inconsistent, no matter where he throws in the N.L
Anibal becomes an innings eater.
Greinke continues his money drive. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes not.

These guys only have 12 starts till the playoffs. We can't judge on a full year's stats.
What we are judging is who will help his new club the most over a two month or or 12 start period.

So, my candidate for the Doug Fister of 2012 is Paul Maholm.
He won't rack up K's like Fister did, but with his six-seven inning pitching mode and the Braves bullpen, his W's should skyrocket.
Well, as much as W's can skyrocket over a two month period.
He goes to a division where the Marlins and Phils have gutted their offenses.
It looked to be a cheap pickup by the Braves, but a very smart one.

What, no love for Craig Breslow?

Yep, Red Sox went all in with Breslow....

I wonder if the Marlins set some kind of record for spending the most money before a season, only to try and get it back at the trade deadline....

Was there any trade interest for Ozzie Guillen?
Yeah, I don't think so either...or they would have traded him too...

Broxton gone, best arm on the Royals is now Jeff Francoeur.
Which is only right, since he's hitting like a pitcher....

Going from the Brewers to the Pirates to the Yankees.
Casey McGehee is like the toilet cleaner who just found a 52 carat diamond in a drain......

Justin Upton joins the ranks of a lot of other Americans who don't like their bosses, but not a damned thing he can do about it....

Victorino goes back to Davey Lopes. His owners have to be happy.....

All those young pitchers to trade and the A's mess up Billy Beane by winning.....

Nix, Mayberry, Schierholtz, Pierre...
The Phils now lead the Majors in fourth outfielders....

One thing I've learned in hearing GM's comments...
The word 'rebuilding' is a bad word. No GM will admit to rebuilding.
Now, they are 'Retooling'
There fans must feel so much better.
