Who Gets the Better Deal?

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Tue Dec 04, 2012 3:51 pm

I don't know about you, but I am already sick of pointless roto reports. They are a conglomeration of guesses by writers. Guesses gleaned from executives and agents who are probably playing them like fiddles.
So with this in mind, lets play our own game.....

Who Gets The Better Deal?

I will make up possible trades (not to far off from Roto World)
YOU tell me who got the better end of the deal
Here we go...

1. Kansas City calls the Marlins and says they have a blockbuster deal on the table for them.

Kansas City trades Wil Myers, Bubba Starling, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, and Greg Holland
Miami trades Giancarlo Stanton, Logan Morrison, and Ricky Nolasco

Who Gets the Better Deal?

2. The Yankees sign Josh Hamilton. This makes Granderson moveable
They call the Rangers.
The Yankees trade Curtis Granderson
The Rangers trade Mike Olt and Michael Young and his salary

Who Gets the Better Deal?

3. The Tampa Rays know that sooner or later they can't pay David Price.
The Rays trade David Price.
The Royals trade Billy Butler, Aaron Crow, and Alcides Escobar

Who Gets the Better Deal?

4. The Dodgers don't care about money and want a second baseman with power...
The Dodgers trade Dee Gordon and Kenley Jansen.
The Braves trade Dan Uggla and Tim Hudson

Who gets the Better Deal?

5. And last,
The Angels finally find a taker for Vernon Wells
The Angels trade Vernon Wells
The Red Sox trade John Lackey

Who Gets the Better Deal?
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I got an e-mail that deal number four was poor because the Braves don't need another shortstop.
Let's say the Braves slide Gordon over to second to replace Uggla and they stretch out or use Jansen for trade bait of their own....

Wow. How the wheels have fallen off the Uggla waggon. Five consecutive 30+ HR seasons (32 per season avg since he broke in), average 91 RBI's per season, 98 runs scored per season all out of a MI position, then has an off season in 2012 and he has totally lost it. An "old man" at 32.

Braves do not need Dee Gordon unless they plan to play him in left field. With Kimbrel, Walden, and Martinez already, another RH reliever is more than redundant and Jansen carries only good, not great value. Hudson, even at 37, is a good veteren presence for a team with some very young arms and is a good bet for 25-30 starts. And he keeps his teams in games and is certainly on the decline, but he still won half his starts in September with a 3.79 ERA and 1.24 WHIP.

If the Braves make that deal, the dancing begins in Chavez Ravine.

It's funny. I've had this response, three pm's, and an e-mail, ALL concerning this deal.
Most admit that Uggla and Hudson have seen their best days.
At the same time, thinking the Dodgers are getting the better of the deal.
The missing element is what the Braves would do with their newfound riches with Uggla and Hudson off the books.
Maybe Josh Hamilton players or even Lohse/Bourn players.
At the least, it would open doors.

As always, good point.

However, pitching should not be a problem for the Braves as is. Hudson at $9m for this year and FA after is probably better for the Braves as they continue to develop the SP talent like Minor, Medlen, Beachy, Tehran, Delgado, and Gilmartin (two or three of which have top of the rotation possibilities). Why lock up money for two or three years on a guy like Lohse (34 and I really don't think is a #1 starter) or Dempster (35)? Greinke wants more than Sabathia. Wouldn't make sense to me.

Hamilton would certainly be nice, but he wants something like $175m. The Braves already have middle of the order types in Heyward, Freeman, and Upton (though they will at times create a big breeze blowing down Peachtree Street).

The Braves have about $10m to spend and I am hoping they can get a true lead off hitter, though the list of available talent is shrinking. Wouldn't be surprised he they went cheap (Eric Young, Jr. maybe?) and banked the money for contingencies.

This is the homey network signing off...

Yankees. Hamilton for Granderson is a plus for the Yankees AND they get to fill the third base and DH holes with salaries king of washing with Olt being so cheap.

Yanks still need another OFer though.

Angels. Wells is gone which is probably enough to declare winners alone, but it clears up a little OF logjam (if you think Bourjos deserves another chance) and Lackey has a better chance of "finding" himself again in Aneheim than in Fenway's friendly confines.

Kansas City. Stanton may be the consensus #1 Fantasy pick next year, and after trading those three players, the citizens of Miami have the worlds biggest bonfire at 1390 Northwest 6th Street and the Marlins move to San Juan.

I like 'My trash for your trash' deals.
I agree, there is a whole lot more to like about Lackey resurrecting himself in LA.
In Boston, he is just plain Meat. A real bad signing by Theo.
Wells, when in the last year of this horrendous contract, will all of a sudden put up great numbers. Book it.

In my mind, Cain and Morrison are zero category players, because that is how many cats are filled from the bench, so they counteract each other.
Holland has a dynamite arm and Moustakas has flashed signs that he is figuring it out.
The prospects of Myers and Starling would be good for Miami.

But, here is the reason Kansas City loses on this deal.
Stanton knows he's gonna get big money from a high budget team. The Royals won't be able to afford him any more than the Marlins in a couple of years.
In effect, the Royals will have traded many years of Myers and Starling and Moustakas and Holland for the rental of Stanton for a couple of years.
Advantage Miami.

Agree on all counts.
Granderson would be a suitable replacement for Hamilton in the lineup, but the Yankees win this deal.
