Ideas for a Better Tomorrow

The Subject Title sounds like an old GE or IBM ad, I know, but I couldn't come up with anything snappy.

The NFBC is ever evolving. It has to be. We are in an ever evolving hobby. Every year, new ideas come forward to add enjoyment to our game. Right now, Slow or Championship Drafts are being run and most everybody is having a great time.
A few of us got together last night and thought about things that could be used starting next year or in the future.
Here are a few ideas:

$400 Championship Drafts-
The easiest one is to make the $375 Slow or Championship Drafts to $400 and make the payouts the same as the Main entry, which is $1500 for the top three places. This should be done next year for sure.

A Classified Ad' section-
Some type of 'Classified Ad' section when it comes to drafts. Right now, we look on the Boards and we are pigeon holed with other people into the next draft available.
With a 'Want ad', we could specify that we are looking for a fast or slow moving draft so that we get in a draft with like minds

Thee Sections of Championship Drafts-
And that leads us to the next idea of titling these different drafts as 'Slow, Slow; Medium, Slow; And Fast, slow.
This would eliminate all the arguments about the pace of a draft, while still having the 8 hour clock for sleep.
In turn, this may alleviate angry posts on the Message Boards

Auto2-
We have Auto1 and Auto. We need Auto2 for those on the corners of drafts, who will be away for a few hours, but would like to see the draft continue without fear of having his entire Que disappearing.
For corners, auto2 is a must.

A Playoff Draft-
This is a tough nut to crack. MLB now starts its playoffs with a one game, play-in game the day after the regular season ends. It doesn't allow much time to form a draft. Still there has to be some sort of playoff draft to keep interest high during the playoffs and World Series.

Satelite Draft Overall-
We have an 'Overall' for everything but these Satelite Drafts. What is wrong with throwing in $25 extra for these satelites and have an overall competition with that as well?
It could even be linked to dual best teams from this overall and the Main Drafts to be a part of the $75,000 bonus prize.
This is an idea that shoud/could (?) start this year.

12 Team Championship Drafts-
If we're going to have 12 team leagues, what better way to get them started than with Championship drafts?
If 12 team leagues are here to stay in the NFBC, then all the same benefits and drafts should be awaiting them.

A Better Chat Room for Championship Drafts-
We are very limited in characters and we can't use any of the icons above the numbers on our keyboards. It won't even allow us to use dashes which is really annoying. Refreshing sometimes, it seems, on a whim.
Sometimes I type something, push 'enter' and the post disappears! But the chat box moves up as if received.
To sell these kind of drafts, the software in the chat has to be improved.

These are just some of the ideas that helps keep the NFBC fresh.
What about you? Do you have an idea to make things better around the neighborhood?
Let's hear it.

Dan, what do you think about a draft (which we can't get enough of) but doesn't require any in-season work (we have PLENTY of those).

Same basic league and category layout but you count every number from every player.

How many rounds? Not sure. More than 30 but don't need 50.

IP requirement is a must so the draft flow/structure is similar to the Main and other stand-alones.
(I don't know how to thread the needle here... you don't want someone deploying an all reliever strategy since that skews draft flow. A starting pitcher roster minimum would help but it's not enforceable in the current format) Any ideas here ?

Will the winner be the team that remained the most healthy ? That would hold true more so in this format of course but injuries derail ALL teams in ALL formats.

Again it's a DRAFT and DONE. It wouldn't be a part of Draft Champion OVERALL prize but a $150 investment could pay off nicely, AND provide us with valuable draft info. Plus all of our IN-SEASON efforts can be dedicated towards our higher stakes leagues.

Any thoughts Dan to help flesh this out ?

Steve

I like this, Steve!

Let's put the pitching and innings requirement aside for now and deal with that later.
How about 40 rounds.
Must have the positional 14 players
Must have 12 pitchers.
The other 14 players are any position that we feel will help our team the most.
I would guess that by the time we get to the mid rounds of the draft that pitchers like Saunders, Westbrook, Zito, you know, the fodder that is on Faab in most drafts will be avoided so as not to hurt peripheral stats.
Same would go with Descalso, B Crawford and that type offensively.
There would be a lot of ways to go about a draft like this.
The innings limit would be the key. It has to be high enough to discourage all relievers and low enough that in case of injury, a team is not penalized twice for those injuries.

A great idea!

Agree with all of your thoughts Dan.

I believe draft-truism will hold steady in this format mainly because the price point will be minimal. The all-reliever or category faders generally strike the HIGH stakes where coming in 3rd guarantees a 50% ROI at least with an decent shot 105 WINS the league. In this case you can't afford to fade a category because the healthy winning team will probably roll a 115-120.

A strategy unique to this format may develop but that variance may very well occur in the mid 20's where things go astray anyway.
