And We Still Wanted More

We always want more as fantasy players. It's who we are.
When fantasy sports started, the media was slow to hop on the bandwagon. there were a few mentions in articles in magazines and newspapers. Sort of like we were a freak (geek) show put on display. Slowly, yearly periodicals hit the market. We, at the least, felt acknowledged and we'd rush out to buy them. If only because somebody had deemed us important enough to publish a magazine for us.
And still we wanted more.

Broadcast radio and tv were the last to accept us. Bob Costas railed about the purity of the sport. And in the meantime, McGwire and Sosa were pounding the ball. Yeah, purity in anything is hard to find. Right, Bob?
Finally, we started getting included on pre game segments and mentions during broadcasts. A radio beer commercial proclaimed, 'We salute you, Mr. Fantasy Player !'
Then the flood gates opened. Now, an NFL show can't be done without mention of fantasy. We have fantasy stats in a running line at the bottom of the screen. We have highlights, not only of the play on the field, but top players in the box scores.
Fantasy is everywhere. And we still wanted more.

So now, there are radio and tv shows that are only about fantasy baseball.
You would think I'd be in heaven with these shows. But I'm not.
These shows are usually reduced to a host and co-host who for the most part, agree on everything.
And the worst part is taking phone calls.
'Yeah, I want to know if I should trade Choo for Darvish. Thank you.'
First, who gives a rat's ass. Right?
Second, the hosts do not know this guys roster, his strengths, his weaknesses, how many teams are in his league, what place he's in...NOTHING...and yet, they answer the question.
The question may as well have been, 'who do you like better Choo or Darvish? Because that is essentially what their answer will be be without even looking at this poor sap's circumstances.
And we don't care because most hosts agree on everything. And if they don't, they'll be so polite as to make us believe they do. As a listener, I want to hear debates. I want to hear numbers. I want to hear WHY Choo or Darvish is better than the other.
Instead, I get a call from poughkipsee about a guys keeper league.
And we still wanted more.

In short, most of these shows are flat out, dull.
I've even listened to three STATS shows. I like hearing the voices from the NFBC. It's like hearing old friends.
But, it kills me to hear Greg and Tom answering callers questions about trades or keepers or really, anything that pertains to one person's team.
It's important for that caller, but dull for most everybody else.
And I don't want to put down any individuals but the stats I hear are not all that amazing.
I couldn't wait for radio and tv shows about fantasy baseball. now that they're here....
I still want more.
