Since I was all over RotoWorld in my last post, let's try something new.
We'll call it, 'What they said, What it SHOULD have said'....
Admittedly, the 'What it SHOULD have said is NFBC based for the most part...
WHAT IT SAID-
'Indians released OF Delvi Cid.
Cid was batting just .143/.226/.214 in 31 plate appearances this season at Double-A Akron. The 23-year-old outfielder will look to catch on with a new organization.'
WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE SAID-
Indians released OF Delvi Cid
Cid was not worth a look for NFBC'ers. Just the same, it would have been cool to roster 'El Cid'
WHAT IT SAID-
'Blue Jays recalled RHP Brad Lincoln from Triple-A Buffalo.
Lincoln has posted an uninspiring 4.50 ERA across eight innings of relief this season at the Triple-A level. The righty will operate as a mop-up man for the Jays.'
WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE SAID-
Blue Jays recalled RHP Brad Lincoln
If your roster is in such total despair that you are even considering Lincoln in a bid, you'd be better off searching for Abraham Lincoln and putting a bid on him. At the least, he wouldn't hurt your WHIP or ERA.
WHAT IT SAID-
'Blue Jays placed 1B Adam Lind on paternity leave.
Lind was excused from the Blue Jays on Wednesday for the birth of his child. He'll be out for the next few days.'
WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE SAID-
Blue Jays placed 1B Adam Lind on paternity leave.
This refutes reports to the contrary that Lind cannot find a hole.
WHAT IT SAID-
'Ben Revere is not in the Phillies' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Pirates.
It's just a routine day off for Revere, who is batting .207/.242/.230 in 93 plate appearances this season. Ezequiel Carrera is starting in center field Thursday.'
WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE SAID-
Ben Revere is not in the Phillies lineup Thursday afternoon.
A routine day of rest for him and a much needed day off for his owners who are suffering at the hands of Revere's .207 batting average.
WHAT IT SAID-
'Ryan Madson (elbow) has reported to extended spring training and is expected to face live hitters soon'
WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE SAID-
Ryan Madson (elbow) has reported to extended spring training and is expected to face live hitters soon.
The dead one's were not offering enough of a challenge.

Reminds me of an old story...two yacking "experts" were engaged in that age old discussion about how star atheletes from by-gone eras would do in the modern sports world (this was in the '90's I think). One example given was how well would Ty Cobb be as a hitter today. The answer was, paraphrasing of course, that Cobb would only hit about .240 or .250.
The first yacking head asked incredulously "You think today's pitchers are that good!?!"
"No, Cobb would be over 100 years old by now!"
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

This installment has some promise, Dan. Let's see this every week or so. I got some sq's out of it.

Re: What It SHOULD Have Said.....
Ronny Cedeno went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer Wednesday in the rout of the Mariners.
Marwin Gonzalez's hot start has cut into Cedeno's playing time, but he made a bid for more at-bats with his first homer today. It'd be best for the Astros if Gonzalez solidified his hold on the starting job and turned Cedeno into a utilityman. Apr 24 - 5:10 PM
Not really! It's called a platoon. Cedeno is batting versus lefties and Gonzalez righties. Either that Roto or I'm reading too many box scores and looking at too many lineups so I should not know that in the first place.....but you should?
