Just Some Thoughts.....

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Thu Aug 08, 2013 3:44 pm

So many thoughts run through my mind during any given day about fantasy baseball. I scorekeep for a minor league team. Even while scorekeeping the game, I'll have my computer opened up to MLB games going on at the same time, which sometimes makes me look pretty stupid in that I can yell a cuss word at one of my pitchers in giving up a three run bomb, even after the home team of the live game has hit a home run.

My thoughts run the gamut....I'll share a few.
Some are influenced by the MIL-SF game I'm watching now....

1. RotoWorld, even though Brandon Belt hit a homer today, he will never be as good as you thought he'd be. Never.

2. Jedd Gyorko is more at home in the PCL.

3. When Oscar Taveras is on somebody's roster, we'll say 'Ha! What a roster waste!'

4. When Oscar Tavares is on OUR roster we'll say, 'C'mon Beltran! You're due for an injury!'

5. And then the realization will come that Matt Adams would probably benefit more than Oscar Tavares anyways.

6. When Joey Votto is 70 years old, his favorite 'work out' will be walking. Some things never change.

7. Tim Lincecum isn't a freak with short hair.
Unless one can correctly pick when Lincecum will throw a no-no or shutout as opposed to a 4/6 or 5/5.
That would be 'freak'ish.

8. Robinson Cano is a Superstar, playing for the Yankees, and hardly ever is in a commercial. Crappy agents.

9. Cano makes plays so lethargically, he'd be perfect as a Serta Sleeper promoter.

10. When Carlos Santana and Mark Wieters reach Yadier Molina's age, maybe they'll have their breakout years.

11. Before the season, the Yanks and Phils were getting ripped for being old.

12. Since, the Yanks have added Vernon Wells, Lyle Overbay, and Alfonso Soriano.

13. The Phils have seen the emergence of Dominick Brown and playing Ruf and Asche every day.

14. And now, the Yanks have to decide whether to sign Cano and get three good years out of his eight year contract or not.

15. If the Yanks lose Cano, that leaves 33 year old Curtis Granderson as their best player.

16. I don't think there has ever been a draft without a Yankee taken in the first few rounds. It may happen next year.

17. How bad is Billy Butler this year? Garrett Jones has more homers. And worse, Jones even has more doubles!

18. Somebody told me that Joe Mauer is striking out more in trying to hit with more power.....yeah right.

19. Mauer has as many homers as Derek Norris. Joe, go back to spraying the ball. We haven't noticed the difference.

20. The answer- Every 2B in the Cardinals system. The 2B at every major College there. A stage hand in Branson. A shoeless kid in Hanibal. A curator at the Negro Hall of Fame. Betty White. Red Schoendienst.

21- The Question- Name folks in or near Missouri who would be better 2B than any the Royals have played this year.

22. Some will see a Major League leading 40 doubles, when thinking that Manny Machado has a great fantasy future.

23. I see the same thing when I see a .300 average and only 21 walks.

24. I see some fantasy lists that have Greinke ahead of Harvey. Why?

25. Horseshit seems to follow Greinke. And when smelling horseshit, odds are, an ass is nearby.

26. I feel for those that have Machado and Matt Carpenter on their rosters. No really I do.

27. You see, even though they were right and those two are having breakout years, every night their owners are screaming,
"C'mon dammit! Would it kill you to mix in a homer or stolen base?"

28. I'll praise him for it now, cuz he'll get lambasted by writers over the winter.
Dominick Brown has one more walk than home runs. Breakout year and those sabrs will draw blood.

29. Joey Votto has 68 more walks than homers. Eight less than Dominck Brown in the homer department.
Somehow, that'll turn out to be a good thing over the winter.

30. In July, Paul Goldschmidt had more walks than he's ever had in a month this year.
Less opportunities also meant only five homers for Goldschmidt, the least he's had since April.
Is that a good thing for Goldschmidt owners?
I don't think so.

When are these people going to see a walk as more of a pitcher's tool than a hitter's skill?
And really, do we WANT our fantasy hitter deep in a count?
Quick. Who do you fear in the D-Back lineup more than Goldschmidt?
That's right! NOBODY!
Goldschmidt's skills aren't improving in taking a pitch. Pitchers, simply, are giving him less to hit.

Damn, you guys are probably getting sick of the thoughts.
I'll go on thinking, but stop typing.... :)
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Nice write up...I have had a thought, too. My auction team has been bottom feeding all year. Last night was the worst...Tim Lincecum gave up more hits than my Auction Team got.

Two walks though..."good eye"....
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
