Playoffs and the Payoffs for Fantasy

Who's going to win the World Series?
I get asked that question a lot. Everybody I know, knows that I live and breathe baseball. They think I may know more the casual guy. So they are disappointed when I usually answer, "I don't know."
I'm not a fan of any particular franchise in sports. Baseball too. If I were a fan at all, it would be for my own fantasy teams.
That said, I hate the way the systems are built in each sport to determine 'Champions'.
These teams play a whole season for the right to play mini-series.
The whole season has really meant little.
Really, the regular season means more to us, the fantasy player, than to a team's chances at winning the World Series or Super Bowl.
Back in the day, the Champions of any sport were on everybody's tongue. Even the casual fan.
The reason for this was that there was one regular season, then a Championship.
It was the best vs. the best.
The best of the National League vs. the best of the American League.
The best of the AFL vs. the best of the NFL.
If not winning the regular season, that team was not good enough to be Champions.
And THAT is the way it should be.
Now, they have a playoff game to get into the playoffs. What?!
I can see why the moguls of the MLB and NFL do this.
It's called money. Lots more money.
And most fans seem to love it.
They think it's good because their town has a better chance to be the 'best'.
But that is my point. The winner now is not the best.
The winner now is who is playing best at a certain time of the year.
The best short series team.
Rules that are not made for full seasons.
I'm as big as a baseball fan as there is, and I still have to stop and think who won the World Series last year.
In getting more cities and states involved, the Championship has been watered down.
Basketball and hockey playoffs are seemingly rivaling the regular season for length.
Four team divisions are deemed acceptable. When taking a step back, c'mon, what a farce!
A built in 25% chance to win and the chance that the other three teams will be under performers, giving the home team the chance to 'back door' into the playoffs.
Which is ok, because remember, it's not how a team gets in the playoffs, it's how they play when IN the playoffs.
Who will win the World Series?
I care less each passing year.
But there is a good thing to this.
The fantasy player becomes more important. As time goes on, there will be even more post season games.
After all, Money rules.
This renders the regular season even less important. But not to us,the fantasy fan. The MLB and other sports will realize this and pay and play up to the fantasy player even more than now.
It plays right into fantasy players hands. And with that in mind, let those playoffs roll on.
