That 'Touch' just cost you $$$$$

It's amusing how sports have changed. Parents don't want to hear or even admit that there kid sucks at a sport. They'd rather have little Johnny hear 'Good job' even if a good job was not performed. When kids play with other kids, they hear the truth. And if they don't hear the truth, they'll still know it.
If a kid is the last one picked for a team, that kid will know he sucks. And he won't hear 'good job' after striking out, he'll hear, "You suck!"
The truth hurts.
Unfortunately for our society, it hurts the parents much more than little Johnny.

I watched my Grandson's basketball game yesterday and noted that a kid was holding his side, that he must be out of shape.
My daughter responded that he had already played in half of a game prior to this one.
My response was a big, SOOOO?
When we were in Junior High, we would play basketball, football, or baseball ALL DAY!
Now, a kid gets an out for almost playing a full game?
ARRGGH!

This mentality has hit the pro ranks hard. Pitchers would throw three games a week, and not get hurt.
Then two games a week, and not get hurt.
Now, it's once a week and cross your fingers he doesn't get hurt.
Players are normally 'rested' now.
RESTED!
From a game that half the time requires sitting on a bench.

Football is no better.
It used to be that the starting running back was the starting running back.
Now, they have third down backs.
Change of pace backs.
Goal line backs.
And still, the starting running back is...you guessed it...RESTED ....during a game.

Like pitches are counted in baseball, 'touches' are counted in football.
More exertion goes on with touches is the theory. Even though on non-touches, he may be blocking to save a quarterback's ass.
How would the real world be if we were paid in touches?

A hamburger flipper at McDonalds could be sent home for meeting his 500 touches or flips requirement.
McDonalds wouldn't want him to hurt his wrist or get Carpal Tunnel, would they?
Next time we have a 'Call Girl', we'll have to ask if she charges by the touch. Now THAT, could get costly.
Our wives hairstylists bill would go through the roof.
Of course, these things will never happen.....Well, the Call Girl thing might but....
They'll never happen because we don't have agents.
Agents rule the sports world.
And it all goes back to Little Johnny.
Those agents become a players parent.
He doesn't want to hear anything discouraging about Little Johnny. In fact, he wants to hear a 'good job' even if he didn't perform well.
He also doesn't want to see Little Johnny play a whole game. He doesn't want to see his Little Johnny getting tired.
He benefits and the rest of us suffer.
Is he doing his client any favors?
No.
There are more injuries than ever before.
The trick is, if his Little Johnny is not in the game, he cannot be hurt. So, agents now have products that they want to sell as a full time product and only want teams to use part time.
And the teams are agreeing by using pitches and touches as a guide.
It is a different world.
