The Contract League Draft

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:55 am

I haven't posted much lately. I've been busy setting up some auction folks, putting together a fast/slow draft and drafting with a partner in the Contracts League.
If anybody gets a chance at drafting in the Contracts League, they should.
It is the best.
Any player who hasn't signed a 'real' contract is $5 of your real money. A guy like ARod is $260. A drafter can 'go high' and draft well paid and star players. 'Go medium' and have a collection of expensive and inexpensive players. Or, go low and have all inexpensive players. All the money goes into a pot, and the winnings are divided by first place, second place, third place, and Manager of the year, which is equal to second place. Manager of the year is usually a fight over the inexpensive teams finishing highest in the standings.

The concept is brilliant. Of course, we would not expect less from KJ, who came up with the idea. But more than that, it is the drafters in the draft, who make it an even better experience. Most unwritten rules are out the window. The bullshit flies and nobody takes anything personally.
It is a home draft online. At a home draft, we can flip the middle finger to a drafter that takes 'our player' or call him an asshole, because he is. He took our player. But that asshole knows that you have just paid him a compliment with your middle finger and name calling. The same happens in this draft.
Most in this draft, have finished in the top 10 of the Main Event. They know there way around a draft table.
They take it for granted that the other drafters not only know every player in their que, but might know more. Everybody is at ease talking of players yet to be drafted. There are no 'sleepers'.

If taking a lot of time to pick, like a home draft, that drafter is ridiculed and prodded till he does pick. This draft offers the cream of the NFBC crop. Drafters who get it. Drafters who know that when somebody picks a player and says "BAM! 25/80 in the 25th round!" they can either agree or call bullshit, and the drafter smiles either way.
It's the best draft of the season and never disappoints and I think the drafters should be recognized here. If you're ever in a draft with any of these fellas, learn and laugh with them.

Ken Norred
John Pausma
Mark Srebro
Glenn Lowy
Alan Greenberg
Jeff Dobies
Shawn Childs
Paul Weber
David Anthony
Ted Cohan
Bill Fearon
Scott Fleming
Bruce Pucci
David Shovein
Matthew Anderson
Eric Karlovic
Roger Martin
Dan Kenyon
KJ Duke
And also Dan 'the Gamblor', Dave's partner

These folks make for a wonderful draft and although this draft is still not over, already, I can't wait for next year.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
