Rants and Stuff

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sun Apr 27, 2014 10:35 am

Any player can get hurt. We know that nobody is immune. At the same time, there are a few players that make us want to pull our hair out.
Let's take Bryce Harper. I've said before that Harper is a future MLB home runs leader. His power is elite.
At the same time, I can't draft him till he learns not to get in his own way. Harper has not learned to play baseball yet. While fans love the Puig- like dives into bases and into walls, for fantasy players, it is just unnecessary risk.
When both arriving, Mike Trout and Harper were continuously compared.
Those comparisons are no longer necessary. They are two completely different ball players. And it's not just that Trout seems to be the better player. Of the five tools, Harper has more power than Trout and a better arm.
But here, the sixth tool is more important. The sixth tool is staying on the field long enough to display the five tools.

The Tigers have five games this week. Barring rain outs.
Is there any team with a more disjointed April schedule ? Five scheduled off days. Two postponements.
And they also have the first day of May off.
And despite all that, today will be their 12th consecutive game.

Edit- The Tigers game was rained out today.
:o :D

Only 146 of 420 NFBC Teams have more home runs than the Los Angeles Angels.

Who in the hell got Major League Baseball to even consider the 'transfer rule' ?
STUPID.
I guess I'm happy that it took less than a month to realize just how STUPID it was.

It is only fitting that a team called 'Chicks Dig the Long Ball' is third from last overall in stolen bases.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Seven of the nine Miami hitters in today's lineup are hitting at least .278
Didn't see that coming.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I talked to a scout the other day. Long story short, he told me that in their group, Carlos Gonzalez is referred to as 'CarGo'.
Carlos Gomez is referred to as 'CarGomer'.
Ha!

Wins suck.
At least if you need them.
A staff of Darvish, Tanaka, Hamels, Beckett, Straily, Gallardo, and Kennedy sounds pretty good for an NFBC staff, right?
Joe Anthony has this well above average staff.
Joe Anthony is last overall in Wins.
Wins suck.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The Colorado Rockies are hitting .293
This includes their pitchers.
This includes their scrubs off the bench.
Only two NFBC teams, with the most elite hitters in baseball, have a batting average above .293

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The San Diego Padres offense have scored 65 runs.
Arizona pitchers have given up 160 runs.
They play each other this week.
This has the feel of an 85 pound man slow dancing with a 350 pound woman.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Chicago White Sox pitching is giving up almost five walks per game.
Everth Cabrera has drawn two walks in 100 at bats.
The White Sox do not play the Padres this week.
Cabrera owners are disappointed.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Craig Gentry has scored as many runs this year (7) as Carl Crawford.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The two leaders in striking out this year are not power hitters.
They're not eighth in the order hitters either.
They are Starling Marte and Abraham Almonte. Both with 36.
Adam Dunn and Dan Uggla are tied for 31st place with 25 strike outs.
Ian Desmond has a 31/5 k/bb ratio.
Players are more at ease with striking out. And not just power hitters.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

There once was a fantasy player who seemed to be allergic to pitchers.
He's a well-known player.
This post would not be complete without mentioning this.
Mike Massotto has more strikeouts from his pitching than any other Main Event team.
I will now take those fellas carrying 'The World Will End Today' signs, a little more seriously.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Tell me about it Dan. How can a team that plays 7 starters each week with a collective 2.70 ERA and 1.06 WHIP be dead last out of 420 in wins? This game will drive you nuts!!

Thanks for sharing in my pain! :x

You HAD to get him going Dan, as if I don't hear about this enough

He's starting to sound like the grandfather complaining about walking 5 miles to school in a ft of snow
Always be closing.

It really is getting ridiculous now. Kennedy and Beckett tonight. Combined for 13.2 innings, 2 runs, 16 K's…zero wins. Both leave with the games 1-1. How can I have a team in the top 30 overall and be dead last out of 420 in wins? I have been doing this for a long time, I have never seen anything like this
