Sunday, Bloody Sunday

I have over 20 fantasy teams. This is the only place I can say that without getting a :o or  or  as I would from the general public.
When I tell the general public that I have over 20 teams, they assume that the teams are free or were of little costs.
When telling them of the price of these teams, I most definetly get a :o :o :o
And that's ok. I don't expect them to understand.

Some times, I'll ask myself why I have over 20 teams. The answers are various.

1. I love the draft.
2. I love the NFBC folks I draft with.
3. I love the day-to-day obsessive feel.
4. I love the draft.

The things I don't like about having so many teams is not so various. Here's the list...

1. Sunday.

Sunday is FAAB day. It's the day that we are FORCED to pay time and attention to each of our teams.
Even with lineup deadlines on Monday or Friday, we can have lineups in place and fine tune them before games. It doesn't take near the time or energy.
Sunday's are different.
Sometimes I don't even want to start looking at faab. I'll stare at the available names for a little bit and say, "Screw it! I'll do it later."
Then, later comes and I feel like I don't have enough time.
I'm a bit excited about getting new players, which doesn't seem to make up for the annoyance in purchasing those players.

I've tried different methods.
The 'Get it done before Sunday' approach.
The 'Buckle down and get it done Sunday morn' approach.
The 'Wait till the last hour' approach.
But nothing seems to work for me other than the 'Do it Sunday and fine tune up till deadline' approach.

It's tough. We have to have wives and family that understand. Without that, we are forced not to put as much energy or time that faab needs.
Our wives really don't understand faab at all. They only know that it is important to our well being.
And in turn, I feel selfish.
My wife only knows that it is a deadline and that I have to have my time on Sunday.

The bids themselves, are amusing to me. I don't know how you guys look at it, but I'll look at my most important leagues the most closest to the deadline. And something will kick in my brain to either adjust a dollar amount down or up.
In my case, it is almost always up.
I'll think to myself that some other conniving owner is after the same player I want. And my original bid of $17 goes to 23.
And why am I so afraid to do even numbers for my bids?
Maybe I'm thinking others will.

As for the bids themselves, I don't care what the second place bidder bid. If I bid $66 on a player and nobody else bid on that player, I tell myself that the rest of the league did not pick up on the quality of the player like I did.
No big deal.
It does peeve me when I see that I was the second place bidder. Especially if it is close. For the lack of a couple more dollars I could have had MY player. Now, he'll be used against me.

I hate looking at the list of players trying to find a player. When searching a player, it should have his free agent # beside his name. It would make things much easier for me.
It never seems like I can find these names fast enough and when owning a lot of teams, the problem multiplies.

September Sundays are worse. Football has begun. We are looking at football, while keeping a wary eye on baseball games,
Then, have to contend with the deadline.
It's tough.
I'm a novice, comparatively, at fantasy football compared to others who are reading this.
How they justify watching football all day, while following their fantasy baseball and football, then turn attention to the deadline, to their family has got to be a very hard thing to accomplish.
On Sunday, I sometimes think the general public are right,
I'll look at the task of bidding on faab and even give myself a :o or :x or

And now, it looks as though those that put large investments towards Steven Matz get hosed.
As if faab isn't hard enough, we have teams like the Mets hiding injury, as if there were something to be gained by hiding an injury.
The Mets are quick to say that David Wright picked up a baseball, slow to say that it was only for an autograph.
In fantasy circles, the Mets have very, very few fans.

This coming Sunday is a tough one for faab. Some teams will not roll out their rotations till after the deadline. I'm guessing the focus will be more on the hitting side of the equation for this Sunday.
The four days off will give players like Alcides Escobar, Denard Span, Michael Brantley, Matt Carpenter, Robinson Cano, Brandon Phillips, Jose Altuve, Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Jones, and others who are playing everyday despite having dinged up body parts.
Respect for players like these.

Getting back to Steven Matz....the situation just shows how tenuous faab is.
When seeing that bidders had 'won' Matz, they were exhaltant. Loving the arm added to their pitching staff.
Especially if their bid beat the second place bid by a dollar or two. Now, it is those that were beaten by a dollar or two who are excited, knowing they were the lucky ones and dodged a bullet.
Faab is a beast.

Glad to see you back, Dan. Missed you on your monthlong sabbatical.
I use "FAAB" as an excuse to get away from the craziness of a 4yr old and 2yr old for an hour every Sunday. Whether I've prepped for Faab bidding or not, I always tell my wife at about 5:30 every Sunday, "And I still gotta do FAAB".... After 6 years around here in NFBCland, she knows that's trump.
I married well. Too bad I typically don't draft and manage as well as I married.

Well said, Dan, as always. FAAB has been particularly frustrating for the Main Event team I like most this year. Seems like virtually all of my bids have been a little too low or a lot too high. Finally got one "right" this week, though time will tell if my $46 bid (which, as you write you often do, I bumped up near the last minute from $43, thereby avoiding a tie that I likely would have lost) was really a winner!

Right, Marc?
Sometimes, and I'll use your example, I'll bid $43 on a player. Then bump it up to $46 with five minutes to go.
THEN, think to myself, "What if my competittor bumped his too?
So, I'll re-bump before the deadline to $49.
Most of the time when I do this, the second place bid is $6 and the competitive bidding was only a project of my imagination. :D

sorry dough- swiping your thread for my sunday observations. 1- jeff the alphabet blows- has he EVER pitched well in a meaningful game- ever? I pray the cubs sign him- or the red sox. 2= Houston and the stat boys can talk all they want about their computers- but correa is just awesome and a scout drafted him not a computer- they had no stats and needed no stats. Houston is doing well because of him, the pitchers they signed, and altuve. altuve was not a computer signing either. Houston sucked- on purpose -for 5 years and got a bunch of high picks and the scouts figured out who to sign. 3- going along with #2 brian kenney is like a lot of liberals he literally can contradict himself in 3 sentences,. it is guys like him they were trying to protect with the 5th amendment. when he talks about the computer and how the Astros use it- he talks about 3 true outcomes and power and strikeouts etc etc- ya brian like correa and altuve. you take the other 7- give me those 2. 4= wins- today I have Fernandez up 2-0 in ninth- boom homer to AMARISTA- I could get him out. I have iwakuma winning 1-0 top of ninth he hasn't pitched 9 innings in like 12 years so Lloyd HAS to leave him in to give up that homer. What in the world has carson snmith done? Did he sleep with Lloyds daughter? ist Rodney now this. I have odorizzi, he pitched well enough to win- but tb can't score off miley- doughboys and I could score 5 runs off miley. 5- did ANYONE in boston think that was a pitching staff at the beginning of the year? seriously- anyone.
