Hopeful Hannah

I'm going to try and pull this off. It'll be tough.
I'm going to try and sound like a 'Hopeful Hannah' and not a 'Negative Nellie'. So remember that as you read on....

There is a lot of talk about the new cutline league introduced by Greg.
Some love the format as is.
Some think it should be played with KJ's roto style.
Some think it should be played in the DC format.
Some have vowed not to play.
Some can't wait to play.

As with every other NFBC contest, I hope it succeeds. My hope is that it is played by enough folks this year to make it viable for a growth game for the future.
I really do.
You hear the BUT coming, right?
Well, you're right.

A new contest is fine. And here is your BUT, but we have the makings of a format that positively would blow this cutline and future contests out of the water.
The auction format is like a new contest to many folks.
Over the last couple of years, Todd and Andy have supplied and introduced more and more NFBC folks to auctions on another site.
Once these new auction folks have dipped their toes in these auctions for hundreds of dollars, they feel comfortable in participating in a live auction for thousands of dollars.

A live auction has already filled, with another close behind it. Greg is genuinely surprised.
I'm not.
The auction format is new and exciting for a lot of us here in the NFBC.
It is a contest that will keep spiraling upwards with participation.
There are no new rules or formats for folks to bicker over. No explanations needed at all.
That's already done.

I've asked before and I'll ask again.
Why don't we partner with another site that has an auction draft room?
When asking this question in the past, the answer was that it would be a future thought.
The time is now. Actually, the time was yesterday.
It's a format bursting at the seams.

While the amount of cutline players is in question, the popularity of auctions knows no bounds.
There is also a building factor with auctions that cannot be matched with a new game. That building factor is that the auction is a format MEANT to be played in a live setting. It feeds into what the NFBC wants.
More live participation.

Building a STATS auction room is out of the question. Greg has stated that it is a costly venture and, cards on the table here, few believe that STATS could build an auction room without many problems.
Andy and Todd have been great in hosting auctions for us on another site.
Many, many drafters have the auction fever because of it.
It is time for the NFBC to step up and partner with a site so that signing up and participating in an auction is as easy as signing up for an NFBC snake draft.
Until then, I'll just try and remain a 'Hopeful Hannah'.

I don't always agree with doughboys on player evaluation, but this is something that I totally agree with him on. I think some of the best advertising that the NFBC gets is when commentators on Sirius and XM radio talk NFBC ADP. I think NFBC would be referenced even more if the commentators had auctions values from the NFBC. I would like to see a DC league that did the first 30 rounds auction style and the next 20 rounds snake style.

We ran a couple of those as private leagues last year.

What is stopping NFBC from making that the "Draft Champions Auction League"? I would guess that it would bring in new customers and great free advertising on XM and Sirius when they mention the auction prices on air. If we do another one of these this year I would like to put my name on the list.
