Speaking Of.....

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sat Aug 20, 2016 8:07 am

It galls me that the New York Mets were called "A playoff contender" last night.
The Mets are 60-62!
That is a bad year. Yet now, a bad year can still be rewarded.
Ugh.

Speaking of the Mets...
Have you seen Jay Bruce in a Mets uniform?
Hardly recognized him. He looks like Joe Schmo. A nobody.
In a Reds uni, he looked intimidating.
Amazing how different uniforms make hitters look different.

Again speaking of the Mets...(Alan building a hatred for me :) )
Have you seen Noah Syndergaards underwear?
Neither has he!
Somebody stole them.
Then again, everybody steals from Thor.
Except for one major league pitcher (Jimmy Nelson, 22), Syndergaard has allowed twice as many thefts (40) as any pitcher in baseball.
Including Jon Lester.

2.76/10/171/1.20

2.86/13/146/1.07

Speaking of Jon Lester....
The first roto numbers are those of Syndergaard. The second set, Lester's.
Although you get the splash and dash of rostering Thor, along with a few more k's, Lester owners are just as happy about drafting Lester.
Happier maybe, since he came at a cheaper price.

Speaking of David PRICE....
Can we even consider David Price an Ace any longer?
If your knee jerk reaction was to say 'No', like mine was, well, maybe we're wrong.
Again, here are Syndergaard's numbers...
2.76/10/171/1.20
Here are Price's
4.19/11/171/1.26

Syndergaard's only clear advantage is E.R.A.
It can be argued that Price faces tougher clubs.
We don't care. We're fantasy baseball players.
The price of Price and teams he faces is built in to the price of Price.
Just know that when drafting Syndergaard, we're closer to Lester or Price than Clayton Kershaw.

Speaking of Clayton Kershaw....
Kershaw hasn't pitched in ages, right?
He STILL has more strike outs than Jake deGrom (145-134)
And more Wins than Syndergaard (11-10)
Man, I don't know why I'm picking on the Mets.
Oh wait, yes I do. It's because they were called playoff contenders.
The Yankees gave up on the playoffs and are playing their kids.
They are 62-59.
Better than the Mets!
But, because the Mets play in a league where 60-62 is considered good enough to be called "A playoff contender, they are "a playoff contender".

Speaking of the Yankees.....
Can you name their all time stolen base leader?
I'll give you a second.
And another.
One more.
It's Derek Jeter.
That shows you how speed has played at Yankee Stadium.
If comparing Jeter's quicks to either Ricky Riccardo or Rickey Henderson, a lot of us would choose Riccardo.

Speaking of Rickey Henderson...
Henderson is second in All time Yankee thefts.
Here are the games/steals for Jeter and Rickey...
Jeter 2747/358
Henderson 596/326
Amazing stuff really.
Man, we need a Rickey Henderson in fantasy today!
The closest we have is Jose Altuve.

Speaking of Jose Altuve....
He will be the only player this year to reach all these numbers...

.350/110/25/100/35

Those are damned fine numbers.
Altuve didn't even score 100 runs last year.
It's true, look it up!
Notice how sabr don't ridicule Altuve and his 50 walks?
Todd Frazier has 50 walks.
Frazier will get scolded. Not Altuve.
Altuve will go top five in most drafts next year.
We like to think of ourselves as pro-actionary.
We're not.
We react to the last years set of numbers.
Altuve replaces Bryce Harper becuse Altuve performed and Harper's stats need reformed.

Speaking of Bryce Harper....
He has drawn 89 walks.
Second most in baseball. Tied with the legend of all that is Holy in base on balls, Joey Votto.
Harper has 91 hits to go with those 89 walks.
He has scored 65 runs.
65!
And 1/3 of those runs are due to self/scoring homers.
The next guy that tells me that a walk is 'productive' need only look at Harper.
He leaves an aroma or odor that makes us plug our nose.

Speaking of Rougned ODOR....
12 Walks this year.
That's it.
12.
And he has scored more runs than Bryce Harper.
'Nuff said.

Speaking of 'Nuff said.....
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
