We Didn't See these Things Coming

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed May 10, 2017 11:07 am

Some things we did not see coming during our draft season....

Adrian Beltre is still out.
I don't think any of the drafters that picked him felt he would be out this long.
He won't be dropped, but I bet some of his owners are tempted.

Gregory Polanco, Xander Bogaerts, and Alex Bregman have as many home runs as Beltre.
Zero.
These three were of the 'sexy pick' variety. Bregman especially.
Bregman was 'fast tracked' through the minor leagues, only spending two years there.
For fantasy purposes, we probably drafted him too early. His better years will be in the future.
Bogaerts and Polanco don't have an 'excuse'. In watching them, I believe that Bogaerts power will show soon.
Polanco looks lost.
It wouldn't surprise me if he matches Starling Marte's nine homer year of 2016, without the many stolen bases.

Jake Arrieta never seemed like a priority for the Cubs to re-sign.
He's making them look smart.
Here is the company that Arrieta is keeping...

Jhoulys Chacin 5.26

Wily Peralta 5.30

Jake Arrieta 5.35

Yikes.

Matt Harvey is the most talked about pitcher in the press.
The press loves their off field stories.
We care about on field.
Harvey has 20 strike outs. Jered Weaver also has 20 strike outs. 'Nuff said.

Jason Vargas has almost a strike out per inning pitched.
Jason Vargas is not that type of guy.

The Fantasy Baseball Gods are having their way with us and the Seattle Mariners.
Paxton, Smyly, FHernandez, and Iwakuma were all drafted with smiles by NFBC drafters.
All, are on the disabled list now.
The one Starter who has survived injury?
FAAB Farting Yovani Gallardo.

Brad Miller leads baseball with 28 bases on balls.
His owners saying, "Screw the walks, hit the ball!"

By the way, a Major League scout had this gem about saberness....
"I'll ask a kid how he is hitting. I've yet to ask, 'How are you walking?'

Byron Buxton has a higher batting average and just one homer less than Jose Bautista.
Bautista owners can take solace that Bautista is still in the top ten of striking out.
Ok, maybe not.
This past year has been a revelation for Bautista in what other teams think of him. now it's his owners that are having the revelation that Bautista is not rosterable.

.262/21/5/15/7

.263/17/2/13/6

The first line is that of Ender Inciarte- good numbers for where he was being drafted

The second line is that of Trea Turner- Hey! He was a better first round pick than Madison Bumgarner!
(although they share the same home run totals)

At what point do we get a reason in why Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon play every day?

Danny Espinoza is batting .142 and basically, sucks.
Espinoza has more rbi (just 13) than these top round picks...

Carlos Gonzalez
Dee Gordon
Lorenzo Cain
Ian Kinsler
Chris Davis
AJ Pollock
Xander Bogaerts
Alex Bregman
Jose Bautisia
Brian Dozier
Jose Peraza
Edwin Encarnacion
Carlos Gomez

There is a lot of suckage going on in baseball this year.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
