Requiem For the Asses

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sun Jun 18, 2017 8:04 am

Ever notice how when we make a bad lineup decision for a week, that the week seems endless?
This week, I had faith in Kyle Hendricks starting, so I put him in my lineup.
I listened to Hendricks tell the press on Monday that if doctors gave him the ok on Tuesday that he would pitch this weekend.
It was blah blah blah.
Hendricks didn't tell the reporters that he was still in pain.
He didn't tell them that his hand didn't feel right.
And me, I fell into that trap of players telling the public what they want to hear, not the reality.
That is on me.

Long story short, I started Hendricks and benched Fernando Rodney.
Rodney had only five games this week.
All on the road.
Against Detroit and the hitters ball park in Philadelphia.
And despite Rodney pitching well lately, let's not forget that Rodney is Rodney.
The result?
Rodney has Saved three of four games with the fifth being played today.
Of course he did.

Yesterday, Arizona won 5-1. If it had been 5-2 in the ninth, Rodney would have gone for a fourth Save.
A Save that would have left me slumping further down my easy chair.
A camera showed Rodney in the bullpen.
While the rest of the audience saw Rodney sitting next to teammates, my television showed the camera zooming in on Rodney and him turning to the camera and saying, "Dan, no faith in me? Bad decision, Man!"
And with that, he laughed and shot three arrows, signifying the Saves I missed out on.

Today, it was blurbed that Hendricks would be out till the All Star game.
Apparently, his right middle finger the main culprit.
It probably got that way from flipping it off at me all week.
Kyle Hendricks now becomes as fantasy relevant as Jimi Hendrix.
Something I should have known a week before.
Or, if really wanting to be self-deprecating, something I should have known during draft season.
Sometimes in fantasy baseball, cleverness is wrapped in stupidity.
Sometimes, I ask myself if I have total awareness.
I do.
If I didn't have total awareness, I would be unaware of my failings.
Oh, I am totally aware.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
