Gallo Whine

Any player that readers want to talk about, let's talk about.
I received an email about how I had taken Joey Gallo in a couple of drafts....
If I could equate Gallo to a former player, it would be Dave Kingman.
Overall, Kingman was unspectacular, but his power was real.

Like Kingman, Gallo has a hard time making contact with the ball.
200 strike outs is going to be a minor obstacle for Gallo this year.
But, if you've read my stuff, you'd know that I rat's ass strike outs.
What I care more about is when Gallo does make contact.

Gallo is Kingman, left handed, in that he utilizes power, loft, and height in making full use of a swing meant for home runs.
I expect Gallo to have more at bats this year,
That is both bad news and good news.
The good news is that the more at bats, the more home runs.
The bad news is that he will face more left handers and tougher pitchers, most likely, resulting in a similar or even lower average than the .209 average that Gallo put up last year.

So, with all this good and bad news, why have I drafted Gallo?...
There are a dozen players throughout the draft that allow us to 'catch up' in power if your first few rounds were either pitching friendly or five category player-heavy.
Gallo is one of those players.
You'll need batting average and at least one catcher taken early to more easily absorb his batting average hit.
He is not an easy take.
To his drafters, Gallo is like a guy plagued by blue balls with a wife who only puts out once a week.
You'll hate life the six days when he goes 1-20, but that one day when he hits two homers and steals a base, a fantasy orgasm.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
