I was just asked if a Kershaw/Freddie Freeman was a good start to a draft.
My response was...."HELL YEAH!"
If anybody is taking Kershaw with their first round pick, it is with the expectation that Kershaw will throw all or most of the year. I didn't have to broach the subject of Kershaw's back to the drafter. He knows the risk.
Freeman still hasn't had his career year. He's a wonderful hitter. A lot better than most baseball and even fantasy baseball give him credit for.
I marveled that Anthony Rizzo was being chosen ahead of him last year. Not to take anything from Rizzo, but I thought ther Cubs mystique from two years ago was pushing the Rizzo over Freeman trend.

I'd be happy with that start.
I'd also be happy with plenty of one-two combinations though.
Harper/Bregman is my most questionable start. That was in the Mia Draft.
I'm not in love with Harper.
In fact, as a personality, I barely find him tolerable.
But, we have to keep those kinda feelings away and focus what he does on the baseball field.
He can hit.
He can run like a girl.
He can hit with a lot of power.
He can slip on first base.
Yeah, I really don't like him much.

Taking a player not loved makes it a lot easier when he or your team fail.
There's a sense of, 'I knew it', that makes us feel better.
And if he or the team succeeds, the check cashes like any other.

What about your start to the draft?

There isn't much baseball being spoken on the Main subject line. It has become mostly about contests.
Baseball is always spoken here.

My favorite start so far is out of the 2 spot. Altuve, Donaldson then grabbed Abreu. I think I got a good start to HRs and some steals and a good base for average. But we all know how this will work out since I'm the one that drafted them. Donaldson will break a leg, Altuve will get turf toe and Abreu will bat .220 with 4 HR and 11 RBI before being shut down with an oblique injury. Lol
No in all seriousness I think this is a good start. I also started with Bryant and Correa I'm a league. That I feel is just OK. Sounded much better the day we drafted?

It's hard not to like any start with Altuve.
Altuve is the number one pick that everybody loves.
Everyday, it seems he does SOMETHING.
You know, you have those days where your whole team tanks....A guy like Altuve is a saving grace.

Donaldson has something to prove. That sounds like MLB Channel talk, but he has a chip on his shoulder about being considered one of the best players in the game. It's a contract year and he is running out of time.
The Blue jays have some possible good offense around him from a clout point of view in Granderson and Grichuk to go with Smoak and Morales.

I've always dinged Abreu.
He is so thick and chunky (sounds like a soup) that I always ding him in my thought process of not scoring runs.
Two years ago, it made me look like a genius. He scored just 67 times.
Last year, I was an idiot. He scored 95 times.

The year-to-yearness of fantasy baseball is so tough.
Mike Trout will probably play 15-18 years.
He'll probably be the number one pick in our drafts in seven of those years.
We'll probably be right two of those times.
It's a tough hobby.
