Ohtani and Oh Angels

There is one thing that has me constantly puzzled during early draft season.
The over drafting of Shohei Ohtani.
Oh, I know that Ohtani is SuperMan. I know that he is supposed to just hit this year. And I know that he was Rookie of the Year and din't even spend all year hitting last year as he is this year.
BUT, that is the rub.
Here is an update from RotoBlurb in November....
'Angels general manager Billy Eppler said Monday that Shohei Ohtani is progressing on schedule and has almost full extension in his elbow.
Eppler added that it will be January before the team will have a clearer picture of Ohtani's timetable. Ohtani will not pitch next season, but the hope is that he'll be available for full-time designated hitter duties on Opening Day.'
All sounds innocent enough, right?
Ok, here is another blurb about Didi Gregorius....
'Didi Gregorius underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday on his right elbow.
The Yankees announced last week that Gregorius would require the reconstructive elbow procedure, so this isn't breaking news. The hope is the 28-year-old shortstop will be able to return around the middle of the 2019 season, probably just before the All-Star break.'
So, you're asking what does Didi Gregorius have to do with Ohtani...
The thing is that these two players had their TJ surgeries just 10 days apart.
Yet the timelines are months apart.
Something has to give.
Both, had TJ on the same arm. Both hit left handed.
The Angels 'hope' for Opening Day, the Yankees 'hope' for the All Star Game.
Corey Seager missed all of last year with Tommy John.
The timing wasn't the same for Seager, but that is an indication that it takes longer to recover from the surgery, even to just hit, than the Angels are admitting.
The Yankees are almost guaranteed of fannies in the seats, with or without Gregorius.
Even half a season without Ohtani would mean less season tickets and individual tickets sold for the Angels.
They have to be optimistic. In their case, pessimism would cost them money.
That all said, why hasn't this been discussed among members of the press?
Are they that focused on Bryce Harper and Manny Machado?
I have seen less 'real news' about baseball this pre-season than any other.
Hopefully, it is not the beginning of a trend.
For us fantasy players, the Ohtani injury and timeline simply means that one drafter, most likely, overdrafted Ohtani in one of your drafts.
Either that, or Gregorius owners are getting a Helluva deal.
That will be decided soon enough.
