For every piece of bad news in fantasy baseball, there is good news.
Miguel Andujar may miss the rest of the season. Obviously bad news for his owners. Good news for owners of Greg Bird, DJ LeMahieu, and Troy Tulowitzki.
Just as we are a 'cause and effect' group for statistics, we are the same for injury.
Sometimes, the timing of these injuries hurt more than anything else.
Giancarlo Stanton and Andujar had the news of their injuries strike mere hours after FAAB had run in the NFBC.
Tim Anderson's wife 'decided' to go into labor on a Monday before Anderson's game.
Damn the luck!
Still, I know one Anderson owner who was alert enough to take Anderson out of his lineup and install Freddy Galvis.
Galvis, the emergency middle infielder for the drafter, of course, hit a home run.
“Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity"
This line was spoken by a Roman philosopher. Back in the day, philosophers were the celebrities of their times.
Now, we have Kardasians.
Leading us to ask ourselves, "As humans, have we really advanced?"
Anyway, the line is true for fantasy baseball.
For the owners of Anderson with the wherewithall to replace him in time, it may not have been such a hit for him to miss time.
In other news and opinion....
Hell yes I am worried if being a Chris Sale owner....
Sale's strength comes at the front end of season's.
Why was Marcel Ozuna being drafted rounds before Domingo Santana?
Why was Joey Votto being drafted rounds before Eric Hosmer?
Let's take the last question first.
The reason I ask is that both have very different approaches, but could be very similar in NFBC production.
I say 'NFBC production', because of Votto being paraded as the poster boy of sabrmetrics.
Let's give Votto credit for a near MVP year just two years ago.
Then, lets compare Votto and Hosmer over the last two years...
Votto- .303/173/48/167/2
Hosmer- .285/170/43/163/16
The near-MVP season has already been swallowed up by a mediocre followup for Votto.
The 'steady as she goes' approach by Hosmer nearly mirroring Votto's trampoline years of bouncing up, then down.
The answer to the question is many-fold.
Hosmer is as sexy as 'Flo', the Progressive Insurance girl.
Votto plays in a sexier ball park for hitting.
Supposedly, Votto plays in a better lineup.
But most of all, I believe it is that Votto has had great year's in the past.
'Steady as she goes' does not warrant high draft picks in the NFBC.
Although in this case, I'll take Hosmer in the 12th round over Votto in the fifth round.
I'll track the two as we go through the season here, as with Ozuna and Santana.
Domingo Santana was awesome two years ago. A future star.
Then, Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain drove him to the bench.
Sanatana did nothing wrong.
Simply, he had a great seat to watch two better players at his position.
When he did get to play, he mostly failed.
Marcel Ozuna was awesome two years ago. A future star.
Then, he was traded to St. Louis and had shoulder problems.
Ozuna did nothing wrong.
Simply, he tried to play through a season with a bum shoulder.
When he did play, he mostly failed.
Why did we penalize Santana more than Ozuna.
I drafted Santana in the 20th round of an early draft.
Ozuna could be found in the sixth round.
It was almost as if Ozuna was not punished at all.
Worse, there are rumblings that his shoulder is still effecting him.
Yelich and Cain, for sure, are no longer effecting Santana.
When Santana reminded Fantasy drafters in Spring Training that he could still hit, his stock rose from 20th round to 10th round in a lot of drafts.
Ozuna, struggling in Spring, because or not because of his shoulder, maintained his sixth round draft ADP.
Why?
I really don't know.
