NFBC Stuff

These Boards should be bubbling with anticipation of a new year. It's disappointing.
We had 14 of 15 drafters in the PreMature League with FAAB come back.
For the 50 Round PreMature, all 15 drafters want back in to draft again.
The Arizona Fall League symposium wrapped up this past weekend. I've gotten caught up with it by a few lucky enough to attend, but there is nothing here. There is a lot of talk about the NFBC down there, the weather is great.
Man, sometime I'm going to have to go to that thing.
I have heard that Greg's son was playing in his homecoming football game, but it's a shame that Tom, Darik, or somebody from the NFBC couldn't attend.
I've spoken or texted with 25 or so NFBC drafters over the last couple of weeks. Of course, they all want the draft room open yesterday.
It makes me smile.
When Greg started this whole NFBC thing in 2004, we drafted in March. That's it. March.
Satelite leagues were introduced and we would draft in February and March. Back then, that was considered so early!
The Draft Championships contest changed a lot of things.
Drafters could draft at their leisure. After all, we had EIGHT hours. AND we could draft before Christmas. What a present!
Since then, the draft room has opened earlier and earlier and leagues, likewise, have filled earlier and earlier.
We are now down to one month 'off' of year round fantasy baseball. Five months of drafting (Nov- Mar) and six months of managing (Apr-Sep)
The technology has improved and, we as players, have become more rabid about playing this game.
I believe, eventually, that our game will be year round.
Last year, we had a new platform and this year some major tech change is coming.
After that, year round drafting and playing is closer. At least, it sure is trending that way. And many, many of us can't wait for that to happen.
Most of you saw the debate that KJ and I had on these Message Boards.
KJ believes that a one-entry contest should be a derivative of the Main Event. A bet on one team.
I believe that this only favors those that draft a lot of teams in that they would enter their 'best team' against those that only have one team to choose from.
I have communicated with a lot of folks since that debate. Most, of the one-team Main Event entrants.
No interest in KJ's concept.
And really, most do not use the five teams vs. one as a reason not to enter.
Most, think that the entry fee for the Main Event is high enough. For them, it would be paying more money for a slighter chance to win it back.
Understandable.
Most cited that if wanting to put more money towards a one-entry team, that they also want the pleasure of DRAFTING that team, not betting on a previous draft.
I don't know. Maybe Greg can find a way to use it in a way that would make everybody happy. That's the hope.
Speaking of drafting, I am going to give some players that have been drafted together in the PreMature League that just seemed impossible in previous drafts.
All these players were drafted back to back. Believe it or not......
Carlos Correa and Mitch Garver
Jake Arrieta and Giovany Gallegos
Brad Hand and Luke Weaver
Kenta Maeda and Teo Hernandez
Will Smith (the pitcher) and Liam Hendricks
Will Smith (the catcher) and MikeFoltynewicz
Ryan Braun and Brendan McKay
And here is a quartet of consecutive picks that were interesting....
Bumgarner...M Ozuna...Aquino...Robert
And one last thing, my friend, Joey Votto was selected in the 20th round of the PreMature League Draft.
Drafters have finally realized that in the day of the ScottBall and wild home run swings, that choking up and taking walks really is of little help to fantasy teams.
Thanks for the memories, Joey.
