The Effects of Thad

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sun Mar 22, 2020 9:33 am

I doubt that anybody is really enjoying life to the fullest right now. Especially those of you who are reading this and are ardent baseball fans.
It's easy to feel sorry for ourselves. Something we love has been taken away from us. Thad is a bastard.
At the same time, it could be worse. And no, I don't want to talk about real life and what Thad has done specifically.
I'm talking in a baseball sense.

We still have hope that baseball will be played. High school and college players don't even have that.
Can you imagine?
Being that age and having a high school year of baseball being taken away from you.
Worse, your senior year?
At that age, it would have been hard for me to cope.
And now, graduations are being cancelled. As adults, we think that'll be a helluva story for these kids to talk about later in life.
But for these kids right now, it's devastating.
High school and college kids all lose a baseball year. They get so few.

Thad has made it hard for us to live a baseball life.
Right now, we would have fresh drafts and thinking about how we're going to rule the fantasy baseball world.
Spring Training would be wrapping up and the season was to start this Thursday.
And we all know, there is NOTHING like Opening Day.
Now, we don't even know if there WILL be an Opening Day.

Thad has even ruined baseball in a non-fantasy way.
There is nothing to talk about. Even with casual baseball friends.
No scores. No news. No statistics. No rumors. No fun.
My wife looks at me while in the dumps and says, "You can still talk about baseball."
What is there to talk about?
What Mike Trout had for breakfast?
She says, "Think hard and come up with something good about this virus and baseball."
"Ok."
"How about this...Most players are home with their loved ones.
Chances are that in 2021, most paternity leaves will be during the off season!"
She looked at me, annoyed.

In real life, Thad makes us feel like a bank robber on the run.
We are holed up.
Visits in public are rare.
Distancing ourselves from others. Covering our faces.
Note to self- Never rob a bank.
I don't want to ever feel this way again.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I agree with you Dan. My son is a senior in high school and has been training all winter for his track season and was hoping for a state championship as a hurdler and 400m runner. He is devastated. I keep reminding him he gets to run in college but his whole season and last chance to compete with his friends has been taken from him. It’s a terrible feeling for a parent. Stay safe and be well

Just horrible, right Greg?
Ironically, my Grandson does not play baseball. All of his closest friends are players though in their senior year.
It's robbery.
And I feel worse for the kids that will not be getting scholarships.
For most, their last year of organized ball taken away. And that goes for all Spring sports.
It's not fair.

Thad blows.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
