Twas the Night Before Opening Day

This poem is almost 200 years old.
Imagine all the kids being read this story before their big day.
'Twas the Night Before Christmas' is a classic.

For us, this year, a little different.
Here is a truncated fantasy version of the poem.....

'Twas the night before Opening Day, when in the corner of the house
I was deciding on my lineups, hand steady on the computer mouse
The players were chosen with precision and care
In hopes that a Championship would soon be there
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While it was pitching Lester or Matz dancing in my head
And Mama in her nightgown and me with my ball cap
I knew I'd be staying up and that she would take a Spring nap
When from my computer there arose such a clatter
I switched from RotoWorld to CNN to see what was the matter
Away from that computer window I flew like a flash
In my mind, the wings of Angels, carrying away cash
When what to my tear-dropped eyes did appear
Baseball postponed, the worst I could fear
With my mouse, I moved so ever quick
To confirm that folks were indeed getting sick
More rapid than the eagles, Thad spread his name
Oh Thad you bastard, you've taken away our game
No Bellinger No Bumgarner No Scherzer and no Lawrie
No Garver no Lindor no Baez no Trevor Story
To the top of the porch! And to the top of wall
I screamed to myself! Dammit, dammit all!'

Awesome, Dan. Great job. You, indeed, are the poet laureate of fantasy baseball.

Your selection also is apropos. For many of us, including me and you, the NFBC live drafts truly are “Christmas in March,” and we surely have been robbed this year.

Thanks Mike. Appreciated.
Like you, I've thought that Opening Day, fresh from drafts, was our Christmas.
Each player 'unwrapped' in seeing how well or badly they played.
No matter the circumstances of my job or other areas of my life, I have always taken Opening Day off.
Robbery is what comes to mind when thinking about today.
Something precious has been taken away from us.
I know there are greater consequences for others and more dire needs around the world.
I know and get that.
Just the same.....Damn.....

Fun read, Dan. Thank you for sharing your poetic talents during these very different and challenging times. :) For me, our fantasy baseball community and the friendships we have developed here are one of the the 'silver lining's' through all that we are dealing as a country. TY sir and you have softened the Opening Day blow.......Great stuff

Thanks Chad. Appreciated very much.

It sure is an empty day.
Heck, as a kid, I would get surly when a game on the radio got rained out.
This is worse because there is no tomorrow like with a rain out :D
Thanks again, Chad
