Winners and Losers

Remember before this virus crap started?
I know. It seems ages ago.
Believe it or not, whether this season is played, there will be winners and losers.
Read on.....

The Boston Red Sox traded Mookie Betts. For Alex Verdugo and minor leaguers.
Boston fans were pissed!
How could they trade our home grown Superstar for a bag of Verdugo beans?
Now what?
Well, all trades are finalized.
Meaning that if there is no season, the Red Sox got Verdugo and three prospects for nothing.
Cool beans for the Sox.

The reason Betts was traded was money.
Betts wanted a boatload to stay and the Red Sox are so near the luxury tax threshold that a canoe was about all they were going to offer.
Betts has been talking about free agency more than most young Superstars.
Pretty much saying that there would be no hometown discount and that owners had better bid high when his free agent time comes.
Betts must have pissed off a baseball God somewhere.

First, Betts becomes a free agent when a new agreement will be given to players.
Usually, bad timing for free agents since owners feel they have less money with a new agreement with players.
Enter the virus.
This year, everybody make less money.
Season or no season, less money for all teams.
Mookie finally realizes his dream of being a free agent and the bank is going to be almost empty.
The Dodgers get screwed in having Betts for little or no time.
Betts gets screwed because the money is not flowing.
The Red Sox come out smelling like a rose.

Indians Management is always called 'smart'.
I guess putting up a good team each year without winning a Championship qualifies.
They always seem to bred good pitching.
Just good enough to get into the post-season.
They could have traded Francisco Lindor. But didn't.
They'll still be called smart.
But, they could have traded Lindor for a lot, while the trading team would have received less of Lindor.
Ah well. They're still 'smart'.

Nobody talks about the Astros.
Front page sports news became no news.
If there is a season, they get to play with no fans yelling at them.
Not one.
They'll play in a hushed stadium where the sound of a beating trash can could reverberate to the outfield.
They win. Like the Red Sox.
See?
Season or no season, there will still be winners and losers.

Quite ironic about the Astros, I stayed away from them this year cause I thought they'd get blowback in opposing stadiums.

I did the same thing.
And from their ADP dropping, a lot of fantasy players felt the same way.
Time heals most wounds. I don't think it'll have a large effect for them in 2021.
