Protests

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Thu Jun 11, 2020 2:44 pm

I'm recovering from old man surgery. Its been more than a week since having a totally new hip installed.
We go through a lot of stuff when recovering from surgery.
Pain, soreness, light headedness, drugs, blood thinners, etc.
Your emotions start to get the best of you.
I've tried not to write much during this time.
Knowing it would be coming mostly from the hip, not the lip.
I think I'm at a stage where I can make an attempt now. Bear with me....

I was watching these stupid protests on television.
Being a product of the 60's, I'm one of the few that believe this way about almost ANY protests. No matter the subject matter.
Protests cure a lot of things for folks as individuals.
It gives their lives purpose.
Keeps them from being lonely.
It's free.
And heck, a television may even come their way.
Protests are a little like a game show where you can be with a lot of folks whooping it up and possibly go home with a prize.
Protests are an American right!

Anyway, I was looking at these protests, thinking somebody should sell popcorn and drinks.
Then, it struck me why that would be impossible.
Most of these things get out of hand and ultimately, the vendor would most likely lose all product and the sales from the product too.
Protests work that way.
It was then that baseball struck me.

It came to mind in how baseball owners have our money by the balls.
Look, if reading this, you are probably ardent baseball fan.
But, do you know what the most ardent fan will admit to during a baseball game?
Boredom.
And when we're bored, we eat, and we drink, and we drink some more.
Even at stupid prices.
We're stupid that way.
So, to sum up...
We pay stupid parking charges, mucho dollars for a seat for our family, then when boredom strikes (It's baseball, it will) we pay too much money for food and drink. We don't even have a prize to take home.
Protests are sounding better and better!

Without capitalizing on these 'fans', owners want to have as few regular season games as possible.
They love their bottom line.
To cover this, they want their players to take a 25-50% pay cut and take the chance of getting the Corona Virus.
Salt of the earth fellas, these owners!
This is like an accountant being told by his boss that he wants to cut his salary in half and move him to a mold-infested office.
And when this poor accountant asks his boss why he would want him to take such loss and risks, his bosses response would be the same as that of the owners, "So I don't lose money!"

Here is where we come in. We have to stop. We have to stop going to games.
It's June 11.
We haven't had a game.
The world hasn't stopped.
It's just a duller place.
All of us have seen 100% less games this year.
Next year, if there is a baseball season, we should cut that ever so slightly to 80%.
It would send a message to owners that we're tired of the stupidity.
The over-pricing. The exorbitancy of watching a boring game.
And what better time to do it than after owners have treated us so badly with non-negotiations.
It would tell them to stop taking our game, us, and our money for granted.
No televisions will be coming our way, but this would be protest I could get behind.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
