Our Club

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed Jun 17, 2020 12:08 am

I do not join 'parties', 'clubs, or 'organizations'.
Even when younger, I thought that joining any organization, club, or party would impede with my own open-mindedness.
Hey, some of my best friends are republicans or democrats, but it sure as Hell doesn't mean that I have to be one.
Groucho Marx was pushed to join the Friars Club.
He did. But after not paying attention to the club and not having gone to a single meeting, he resigned.
He received a letter from the Friars Club President, asking why he was resigning.
"I don't want to be in any club that would have me as one of its members!" He responded.

Then, my wife suggested me that I was not clubless or groupless.
"You quarantined yourself every Sunday before it was fashionable with FAAB."
"You study hours upon hours"
"You bang those computer keys every day writing something or other."
"You are most definitely a part of a club."
She had me.
I've been a proud member of the NFBC since almost the inception.
I simply love it and can't imagine life without it. Although this year, it sure is easier to see the 'other side' of that.

It kills me that there will probably be zero or little baseball this year. Just like it is probably killing you.
But, like a true club member, I worry about something else more.
The NFBC.
I don't know anything about their finances or anything.
Zero.
I do know that they should be doing pretty well, at least leading up to this baseball season.
BUT, what if football is not played as well?
This scares the shit outta me.
It just seems like a whole year without the two major fantasy sports would be devastating for a business like the NFBC.

I am much more a baseball guy over a football guy.
But I have never rooted so much for there to be a good long football season than this year.
I could care less bout the sports fan who says the the US needs football after what looks like the fall(less?) of baseball.
I simply want football to be played for the NFBC's sake.
It's selfish, I know.
But hey, that is what happens when a club accepts me as one of its members!
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

"I am a type. I don’t like groups. I maintain few memberships. I question and resist authority, especially enforcement of rules for the rules’ sake. I’m leery of orthodoxy. I hold back from shared cultural enthusiasms". - lionel shriver

This author nailed my ethos, Dough. You're welcome to join the anti-club club. :)

Chum Chum Club. Makes me smile.
Only the veterans here can fully realize and cherish the reward of help building the NFBC.
Probably all of us on this thread were accused of being in that club too. :D
