13- Lucky or Unlucky?

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Jul 10, 2020 12:48 am

I got into another DC Draft.
DC's are my choice of weapons leading up to the Main Event.
I like no FAAB. I like deep teams. I like drafting for more than a week.

In this draft, I KDS'd 1-15 (How imaginative!)
I got choice 13.
When getting choice 13, you start thinking about Story, Bregman, Ramirez, Tatis Jr, or Arenado on the hitting side.
Verlander, Scherzer, and Buehler on the pitching side.

Funny thing happened though.
I got Mike Trout.
At 13.
Look, I know what he said. And I know that what he said has dropped him on some draft boards.
Understandable.
But you know what?
It's Michael Friggin Trout!

My first thought was that he had already quit for the season.
He didn't.
My second thought is that maybe I think he'll play this season more than most others think he'll play.
And that may be the case.
My third thought was that it's a DC!
Play to win!
Don't play not to lose!
If Mike Trout is an option at 13, give me that option.

After selecting him, chat was that he would eventually fall to the second round.
Not in my drafts!
I know there is a risk/reward for all drafters.
I also know that the first round is your building block. Stability.
If Trout is available at 13, 'stability' should be hung in the town square.
Every day that Trout stays on the field is another day that he is getting comfortable playing baseball.
Compare Trout's numbers to the hitters listed above in the bottom of the first round. over the last few years.
Not close.

This is a friggin weird year.
College teams play 60 games. Not the Pro's.
But here we are, drafting for a 60 game season.
Draft lists have been adjusted.
But one thing has not changed going into drafts.
And that is drafting the best players first. Before others draft them.
Mike Trout has been one of the three best players since Ron Shandler thought he was a fluke.
I think it's a fluke that he was available with the 13th pick.
And if he does opt not to play this year, that's on me.
But damn, for me, that was one of the easiest number 13 draft picks I've ever made.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Would be interesting to know how many people are changing their KDS because they no longer are prepared to draft Trout in the top 5. Although in the online championships over the last week, Trout is 4th by ADP, and has never gone lower than 7th.
