Crap and Stuff

Nick Niedert starts the first game today.
Never seen him.
With a name like that though, it'd be cool if he threw like Seaver.
One week of games are played.
One Starter has gotten an out in the eighth inning. One. Antonio Senzatela.
Managers are moddlecoddling their Starters like we would a Mint Mickey Mantle card.
The White Sox don't look all that exciting.
Most teams don't.
Maybe I expected too much.
Although, the Royals have been fun to watch...even without Mondesi.
Speaking of Mondesi, I drafted him once on a DC team. ONCE.
Mondesi makes me feel icky when drafting him.
I don't trust him.
I don't trust him to stay healthy. I don't trust him to hit for AVG.
I don't trust him.
An NFBC friend of mine took Mondesi in the third round of a Main Event after his injury was known.
He didn't cry "VALUE", but he did like the price.
We can ALL be bought in fantasy baseball.
At least my friend has an excuse. He drafted Mondesi with an injury discount. I drafted him because I was stupid.
I've already turned off the sound to baseball broadcasts, except for the Mets and A's.
Even the Red Sox booth has turned into cheerleaders for their team. Too bad. They were great when just a two-man operation.
I laughed out loud when the Yankees crew extolled the virtues of Gary Sanchez working hard.
Hard work applies to the field.
Sanchez never hustles on the field. He uses the most minimal energy he can get away with and still be a good teammate.
Broadcasters, at one time were 90 percent true description, 10 percent cheerleader. That has seemingly flip flopped.
Managers have taken the easy road.
Unless having a dyed in the wool Closer, they sell committee.
There is no committee.
They aren't going to use a committee, they just sell it.
In this way, if Mark Melancon fails as a Closer, they can go to Pagan or Pomaranz without Melancon having the stigma of losing the job.
Look at Toronto. Merryweather is the guy. Jordan Romano never 'lost' the job. Because officially, he never had it.
Same in Kansas City with Holland.
Holland, Taijuan, France, German...Sorry, Country jag.
This will be the ninth season in a row that James Paxton will not have thrown in 30 games.
Yet, he remains a high draft pick for us.
Why?
How many times do we have to get hit in the head before we avoid the punch?
I am very risk-averse.
I thought it was crazy when Tatis Jr. was taken as a top three pick in most drafts.
I thought it was crazy when the Padres signed him for eternity.
He has played 100 games in a season one time.
One time.
He exudes talent. Love watching him play.
But, their has to be a correlation between talent and dependability before tagging somebody a superstar.
Will I miss out on Tatis Jr's first full break out season?
Yep.
But I need proof that he can have a full break out season.
I did not draft Juan Soto once among my 30 teams.
I believe he is great.
And I realize I was probably the only NFBC drafter not looking to draft Soto.
I owned him last year. I hated his last month of the season.
He loves and prides himself in not going 'out of the zone'.
Not like Joey Votto. But enough to wear on an owner.
Mix that with pitchers not really wanting any part of Soto and I believe that Soto does not become the fantasy star that most envision.
What he WILL become is an analytical darling. In a sense, replacing Votto as the God analytics pray to five times a day.
His walks and OBP will go through the roof.
Bryan Kenney will have wet dreams about Soto.
Meanwhile, we will expect more in fantasy.
Are Yahoo Kids doing some of these write-ups for the Rotoblurbs?
Most are laughable.
Apparently, getting 10 swings and misses is laudable even if allowing six earned runs.
An increase in velocity is the lead story for a pitcher, the seven runs allowed, backburnered.
Sometimes, a player just sucks. Don't sugarcoat it. Say that he sucked.
Believe me, if owning that player, the readers have already said it.
