Our New Off-Season

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Tue Dec 28, 2021 9:16 am

I thought I would be suffering during this off season.
No transactions! What is a fantasy guy to do? What does he have to look forward to?
Truth is, I haven't missed them.
In fact, I think it was worse when transactions would trickle in through the draft season.

Maybe it is knowing why there are no transactions. During a normal off season, we are tuned to a Roto site waiting for that next transaction.
No need for that.
For a normal off season, we have...
October...playoffs
November...slow transactions
December...slow transactions
January...steadier transactions
February...More transactions
March...Spring Training and 'clean up' transactions

With any luck this year, it will go like this....
October...playoffs
November...Flurry of transactions
December...crickets
January...crickets
February...Half crickets
February...Half maniacal transactions
Wednesday...Spring Training and steady transactions

It should make for great drafts during the height of our drafting season!
Right now, we don't fully know who is Closing for most teams.
Most teams don't have a full rotation.
Every team has a position that is open.
Rich teams from New York, LA, and Chicago have holes.
Smaller market teams are looking to wheel and deal.
Man, it should be a great time when resuming!
I can't wait!

Meanwhile, I have been combing through a few baseball books.
For the life of me, I don't understand how some Rogers Hornsby quotes fell through the cracks for me.
From most accounts, Hornsby was thought of as an asshole.
Someone who was very driven by the sport he played and expected the same from teammates.
A no-nonsense guy who only cared about the art of hitting and winning.
Here are a few of his quotes. The last one, his most famous, and pertaining to our situation.....

"I don't want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it."

"Players who stand flat footed and swing with their arms are golfers, not hitters."

"I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher."

"Any ballplayer that don't sign autographs for little kids ain't an American. He's a communist."

"The big trouble is not really who isn't in the Hall of Fame, but who is. It was established for a select few."

"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
