New York AL Auction League

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sat Mar 13, 2004 9:46 am

The 12-team lineup for the New York AL Auction League is official and it makes perfect sense to announce the order of the draft and determine who you will be sitting next to on Friday, March 19 at the Javits Center. This is the order that we will introduce new players and every round during the auction will be 1-12 as we will not go back up. However, in the reserve round it is a serpentine order for six rounds: 1-12, 12-1, 1-12, 12-1, 1-12, 12-1.

Best of luck everyone in the hunt for the $7,000 league prize:

1. Eddie Gillis

2. Alan Zimmerman

3. Peter Lukowicz

4. Rusty Tinik

5. Jeff Dobies

6. Bryan Anderson

7. Michael Pisani

8. Glenn Schroter

9. Bob Sherman

10. Andy Shane

11. Gary Sobov

12. Ralph Boscaino

I didn't list your hometowns as I thought it would be best for you guys to decide if you wanted anyone to know that. This is a GREAT group of guys and it should be a very fun, competitive league. If you don't have access to the Auction Leagues, e-mail a request to: [email protected] and they will set you up.

There will be two spots set up per team at the draft table, so four teams will be down the left side, four across the bottom and four up the right side. A six-foot draft board will be at the front for all to see and we'll have an auctioneer and a draft facilitator. The draft facilitator will write in the $ value of each pick and keep a running tally of remaining money for each team at the bottom of the board. We will likely break 3 times during the regular draft, but that's up to the participants and the auctioneer.

Please do me a favor and introduce guys at reasonable price levels. That will keep the draft moving and you guys will be done in less than six hours with everything. If you go, "Alex Rodriguez $1," you'll never get out of there. Say A-Rod for $30 at least and maybe even $35 and get the bidding to a serious level. Sound good?

Feel free to introduce yourselves and boast about winning this league title right here. You own the League Forum until Monday! :D :D

Greg - PLEASE feel free to use the same person who pulled out this order for Monday's Draft Selection too. I like being #3 and would like to get that spot for Saturday's big draft too. Of course, I would take 1 or 2 if she (your little girl?) can pull that off too.... :D

Thanks,

Pete

Cellar Dweller... the other kid is only 2 years old. I don't think she can read so what good will slipping her a $20 like I did with the 9 year old do? err, ahh, did I say that out loud?

Did she really do that for a $20? Nah, it was hilarious because she had no clue what she was doing but everyone in the office was oohing and aahing, not that we know any of the people who were getting selected. But it was a cool scene and she felt like she was the most important person in the office. I gave her two Girl Scouts cookies for her efforts and Rocky and I posted the names. It was as innocent as it comes, with a nine-year-old honestly picking the draft order of a league that will pay $7,000 to the winner!

Unfortunately, she went on the DL right after that with pneumonia. Now we're in need of a relief pitcher for the NFBC drafts tomorrow. Looks like it will be adults doing it, which of course, you can't trust near as well as a nine-year-old.

Greg - First and foremost; the very best of wishes and prayers for a fast recovery for your daughter.

I can imagine how BIG she felt picking the names out yesterday. My 7 year old daughter often picks out a player or two when I can't decide on a football lineup. She's all smiles doing it and she's usually very lucky for me.

In fact, she helped pick out my team name. I was going with "Ball Four" when she told me her lucky number was Five.... Thus, I am the proud owner of team "Ball Five".

May your little girl come home as fast and healthy as possible!

Hey King of Queens - How did you get to bid on Donavan Osbourn since he's on my team? I see you got him this week in free agency, yet I drafted him and he's still on my team too.... Help!

King of Queens-You beat me out of my top two guys I was going for, Cabrera and Bedard. I was hoping the price on Bedard might have gone down a little after that no so great start the other day, but I guess not. Good job man.

Andy, I have you to thank! This morning you pointed out my less than stellar performance in this league, so I felt compelled to fill out my roster a bit. Sometimes all I need is a little motivation. How much did you end up bidding on JC and EB?

I see you're doing pretty well yourself in the 100K event. Keep up the good work...

LOL, all in good fun my friend. I wasn't going over $100 on Cabrera, so I figured I wouldn't get him. Bedard, I bid mid 40's. I think he's worth what you bid and I was happy to get Mecir instead. As soon as Oakland realizes Rhodes can't close, Mecir will take the job away ;)
