Which is more important, projections, or how you assemble your team?

Post by la Jolla » Tue Mar 07, 2006 10:24 am

Hey Buster, I unfortunately am stuck at my brothers wedding in New York on draft weekend. He actually finished right behind me (Matt F.) in this contest...If I pray hard enough he'll accept your offer for the steak dinner and call off the wedding...thus allowing me to enter the Main Event on Saturday:p...Thanks anyway and I enjoyed the concept of your article...Christopher Fleming

You know, the All American Grill at the Rio is actually a very nice place to eat.

However, both Roto Spin and Matt F. have turned down their winnings. Third place is a CS writer, Marc Meltzer, who I know is drafting in Tampa, so that leaves him out. Fourth place is Christopher F who had lacked the foresight to schedule his wedding around the NFBC.

This brings me to the fifth place finisher, Lance T, who can claim the prize if he so chooses.

Joe T, you are on deck once/if Lance refuses, and Eric P, you are in the hole.

Thanks.

Wait a second Buster, I, Christopher F. finished ahead of my brother Matt F....If you have a brother you'll know why this is important...And it was his future wife that chose the wedding date...enough said..

Thanks Buster!

I wish I could make it to Vegas and take you up on that, but I cannot be there this year. It's my favorite city too, dang it!

Looks like settling for weaker avg, and wins seemed to allow better scores in the other cats.

Thanks for putting this together, and am looking forward to reading your article.

My apologies to Christopher F., and not only do I have a brother, I work with mine, so yes, I understand how insulting my post was.

Well, I am striking out here more than I ever did in high school, but I will continue.

Joe T., the dinner is yours, if you want it. If not, Eric P, you are next in line. Did I mention that I was paying for this meal?

Buster, if it gets to me at #11, I will accept. After all, I live here and I like the All-American Bar & Grill. Therefore, you can only have a maximum of 10 rejections!

Thanks for the kind comments. At least I know now that someone will join my co-manager and me for dinner. I am still waiting on Joe T, but next in line (after Joe) is Eric P who is drafting in Chicago, so he too is out.

So, it's Joe T, and then Mike D, and then CC. However, now knowing that Nevadaman is waiting in the wings, I can sleep better.

I realize that Cindy will frown on this, but the complete column is now posted at http://www.creativesports.com/

At the bottom of the column, there is a chance to download an excel spreadsheet document with all the raw data, team information, standings, and ranking by category.

Thanks once again for your assistance in this column.

Buster, Nice job on the article and thanks for giving us an interesting diversion in these tense pre-draft weeks! I have always felt that properly balancing one's team is the most important factor by far. This often results in having to select players that are not the "best available" overall, but rather the best available for your team's current composition. Your article will help less experienced or cerebral players to understand why just picking the top rated guy won't work. Also, your explanation of why speed can be overrated was well done. In fact, at last year's NFBC, I heard a guy say (in absolute seriousness)that he had Pods ranked #1 of all players! Now that's an ugly rating system! By the way, here's the next challenge: Hold a 15 team NFBC-style draft using final 2005 stats and see who picks the best team!
