Since I don't have him any leagues, I get a perverse pleasure in watching Marmol set himself on fire

As a Dempster owner......not laughing but yeah...I hear you. He was on top of the world last night all jacked up after getting the last out and getting the save. Today he is back to Marmol.

it always cracks me up when people on talk radio scream for the gm to trade a guy like marmol to get some young guy for the future. what young guy? it isn't like all the other gm's aren't watching this. ya- the red sox need a closer- trade 'em marmol or god help us heath bell. ya right.

I had Marmol at the bottom of the 30 closers.
He probably didn't belong there. But sometimes we have to ask ourselves that if I roster this guy, can I 'hang wif 'em' when he has his inevitable spontaneous comBUSTions?
My answer was no.

I think the bigger fail in this one was on Ian Stewart. His ole play on the double play grounder pretty much sealed Marmol's fate. The implosion at that point was a given. Sveum saved Marmol and his owners a couple earned runs by playing the infield back and getting the double play grounder.

Dan, I know you were high on him last season. Thank goodness you didn't have to relive that all over again. :D

Yep, we only get one life.
I haven't seen the statistics on it, but anybody using Marmol as a closer lifeline two seasons in a row, had to have decreased their own life expectancy by about the same amount. :D

As a multiple Carlos Marmol, Heath Bell, Frank Francisco, etc. etc. etc. drafter, I'm close to just pulling an H-Rod owner and just dropping all these guys from my rosters. They're not getting me any saves anyway and at least my ERA's and WHIP's will thank me.

Ayala's already passed Strop. Strop didn't blow a save but the manager dreamed that he might blow one, so Ayala got the last one. Twenty teams don't have closers, just save opps for random RPs.

2013 First Round........... Mariano Rivera ;)

SPs that decrease life expectancy aka one Francisco Liriano.... even when he threw the no-no last year with more walks than strike outs, I was depressed.

Yeah, Marmol was on my do-not-draft-no-matter-what list this year along with Frank Francisco. Unfortunately, I still have issues with Hanarhan and H Bell as my closers. Just painful.

BTW, I don't know if we have any Cincinnati people here on the boards, but today was the first time that I have been to Great American Ballpark and I wanted to say I was very impressed.

The park was really nice and the people that I met ( ushers, concession personal, and fans) were all very nice and helpful even though I was walking around in my Cubs jersey :D .

You have a great place to watch baseball in Cinn and you should be proud.

Mariano Rivera. He's one of the few relievers that were performing for me. I have him on two teams, Max's 1000 Slow and my Slow draft that leads the overall. I can't even replace him on either. I honestly feel like puking. Yet Marmol and Bell remain healthy. There is no justice in fantasy sports.

My score card is all messed up!

Image

Lemme see if I can get this straight...this week we are speculating on who will replace:

1) Rivera
2) Marmol
3) Bell

Who am I missing?

Also, which teams are being contacted by the above impacted teams for potential closers?

1) Houston (Myers)
2) Atlanta (Venters)
3) Tampa (Peralta)
4) St. Louis (Boggs)
5) Texas (Adams)

And on and on and on. Kind of like a lottery.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

That was weird. He gave no indication as to what was wrong either. Shoulder, elbow, oblique, who the hell knows ?

Shoulder strain at this point for Street - DL most definite.. several weeks, if not more. Another closer down.

You've got to admit, this is almost funny at this point... in a tragic laugh so you don't cry sort of way of course.
One thing that crossed my mind, it's a good thing for Jim Stanard that he pretty much took the year off. Certainly the wrong year for an all-reliever strategy.

Street and Bell can't finish,
kimbrel gets knocked around before notching a save,
Aceves goes 2 + 2/3 innings,
The town of Chicago finds out that that among that large populace, they don't have a real closer,
Chris Perry earns his major league leading 10th save,
Matt Capps and Johnson sets down the order in the ninth in one, two, three fashion.

Typical day for closers....

ROTOWIRE Sunday am

HEATH BELL LOSES CLOSERS JOB ON A "TEMPORARY" BASIS

Bell has been removed from the closer's role on a temporary basis, the Miami Herald reports. “We’re going to [use him earlier in relief], maybe for a few days, to get him back on track,” manager Ozzie Guillen said. “It’s not like I’m removing him from his job. We’re going to come up with something positive to resolve the problem.”

The offseason acquisition has been horrible so far, with just three saves in seven attempts and 10 earned runs in 8.2 innings. The length of the move will likely depend on how successful Bell is pitching in lower leverage situations, as well as how well his sub performs in his place, though we'll note Guillen is saying this is in no way a long-term move. Guillen also said he is leaning toward having Steve Cishek assume ninth inning duties, so for now he looks like your best bet for your FAAB budget this week, though Cishek is likely unavailable until Monday because of a heavy recent workload.

If Javy Guerra blows another vs the Cubs his time as closer may be done. When you can't get Ian Stewart and David DeJesus out, you don't deserve to be a closer.

He blew it... tell me, when is it going to end with all these closers. If This keeps up there will be a lot more SPs goign deeper, if not CG's.
