the Pirates are on pace to score 471 runs...they are scoring less than 3 a game. They have a team OBP of .268.
The Athletics are hitting .213 as a team.
The Padres are on pace to hit 59 home runs...for the season
anemic offenses
Re: anemic offenses
Good stuff, Paul.
Here are a few more stats....
.249 is the average batting average for a Major League hitter. This average in the past has sent some hitters to AAA......
Five years ago the average Major League batting average was .268
Just two years ago it was .257
I'm sensing a trend here...
Could it be time to lower the mound again? Shorten the strike zone? Bring back real drugs? Real hitters?
The Mets moved in the fences at Citi and a few hitters have benefitted from the shortened fences.
Still, the Mets are on pace to hit less homers this year, than last year.
Since 2000, four teams have had under 100 home runs in a season.
This year, at least four teams have a very good chance at 'accomplishing' that.
Is PetCo THE doubles park?
The Padres have 80 doubles.
Five times their homer output. No other Major league team comes close to that ratio.
Baltimore leads the Majors in home runs. But, don't rush out trying to find an Oriole for your fantasy team.
They are dead last in steals with 12. Adam Jones has six.
The worst fantasy team in real baseball is the New York Mets.
The Mets have only 25 homers, and worse, just 16 stolen bases.
American League teams are averaging nine more homers than National League teams.
Last year, the top five hitting home run teams were Texas, Toronto, New York, Boston, and Baltimore.
This year, it is the same five.....and Tampa is seventh.
Last year, the Yankees had 33 triples.
This year, two.
Anybody seen Brett Gardner?
Anybody?
Remember when 'The Flash' was so fast he was invisible?
Brett Gardner, right?...
The Major League leader in triples?
Orlando Hudson with five.
Good enough to get waived.
Momma's don't let your babies grow up to be triples hitters....
For those crying that Pujols should be moved out of the three hole...
That guy hitting third in Seattle still only has one homer.
He can sure hit them in batting practice though!
The last three hitter to hit one home run during the year occurred during the dead ball era....You go, Ichiro!

One more....
Only because it is telling in that this is a pitchers world and we're just living in it...
A short six years ago, the average K/9 ratio for pitchers was 6.58 for pitchers.
This year, the AVERAGE pitcher has a 7.44 per nine innings. That used to be a strike out pitcher, folks.
Now, just average.

I haven't seen any stats, but I have to believe the Cubs belong in this discussion.

Re: anemic offenses
I just heard that, before the 2-run explosion so far today, the Cubs had scored only 4-runs in there last 54 innings...and were 0-26 with runners in scoring position...that's pretty anemic!
