A Message For New NFBC Hopefuls

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:36 pm

Most of us have drafted 100's of times. We've drafted in local leagues, we've drafted in 'live' events like here with the NFBC, and we've drafted online.
Online seems to be the most impersonal. If on Yahoo, CBS, or ESPN, we most likely didn't 'know' one person we were competing against.

If you're new here, let me have your ear.
The NFBC has something none of these sites can offer.
A feeling of family.
Even in online drafts, we will be familiar with some of the Managers or team names.
It's cool.
It gives an air to being in a local league, without being in a local league.
15 Of us just completed a draft that I will long remember.
This draft included a player who had a daughter in need of two brain surgeries.
A devastating hurricane.
A player who lost power to his home for two weeks.
A player who left a ravaged home and went to another to draft.
A player running marathons, a goal of a marathon in each U.S. state, while having a hand with the military.
A player whose wife tore her achilles tendon and helped give her a hand, while keeping an eye on his computer.
And not one player griped.
Not a zzzzzzz post.
Not a :x
Just a whole lot of understanding and patience.
We finished this 50 round draft in 36 days despite the problems.
Some times more than 24 hours passed while a father feared for the survival of his child.
He received prayers from these drafters.
Not reminders.
I'll long forget the winner of this draft, but I'll remember forever the 15 who participated.
Good, good men who I can't wait to meet in Las Vegas.

This is something we can't get at Yahoo, ESPN, or CBS.
The NFBC has something those sites will never have.
A close-knitness.
That family atmosphere.
A place where we can throw insults, and receive them like they were from a friend.
You can't get that at Yahoo or ESPN or CBS.
Only here.
Now, I know that I'm probably coming across like a commercial.
I don't care.
It's from the heart.
Drafting here, among the best players and people across the U.S. is a wonderful experience.
Greg should be proud.
And you, you should become a part of it.
Remember this post when you're having Thanksgiving with your family and then decide where to spend your fantasy dollars.
This is the place to be.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Wow, Doughy, couldn't have said it better myself. I was honored to be a part of it. What a bunch of great guys. Looking forward to hopefully meeting many of them in Vegas my first time out there this year. It was truly a one of a kind experience. I didn't want it to end even though it felt that it went on forever. I miss it already. Thanks for putting it together in the first place. And while I'm at it, Greg and Tom take notice: This is the EXACT reason why Dan Kenyon deserves enshrinement in the NFBC HOF, but only one of many stellar reasons for sure. He makes me and others want to keep coming back for more year in and year out to compete against people like him as part of the NFBC family. :)

I responded to everyone in this draft that it was the best draft I ever participated in (and I have participated in many, many drafts, right Greg?) Like Dan, I will never forget this draft; a little girl who now has 14 uncles (her dad's words, not mine). The commitment of this group was unprecedented and unwavering. It was truly a pleasure. I have participated in this draft for the past 3 years and this was by far the best, not saying the others were not, just this one was special.
Great job Dan!!!!

Your welcome, Kathy.
It was so neat to see 15 individuals starting out all independently thinking about their own drafts. And then have it all transcend to those same 15 individuals coming together in hopes and prayers for a girl they'd never met before.
Awesome.

Kathy, Mia may not understand the magnitude of the positive impact she made on a bunch of grown men at this particular time in her life, but someday let her know that during the most challenging time of her young life (and yours as well), she did a world of good for a lot of us, and made this game even more special to us all. :) If we do have that draft in January as everyone is throwing around right now, make sure that Roger does a video of her drawing the draft order and announcing all of our names. That would be special. Take care and Happy Holidays to you. I know that Christmas came very early for you guys this year, but you'll take it. Best gift in the world, I'd say. :)

This is an AWESOME thread guys and not just because of Dan's endorsement of the NFBC. It's great to see that 15 die-hard owners can form a league the day after the MLB season and have so much fun drafting baseball players in October and November. It's also so great to see the type of personal interaction that these email drafts can have and how we can all help someone during tough times. Giving really is better than receiving sometimes, but in this case, it looks like everyone received some love through all of this.

Good luck to Roger, Kathy, Mia and the whole family. I've been there and I know what support can do for the healing process. It's soooooooo great to see our community help out during what I'm sure were unbelievably tough times. I can't wait until Las Vegas when we gather so many of you together and have a night to just hang out, reminisce and get to know each other better. This really will be a special time this year in Las Vegas and hopefully everyone can make it for a Thursday night get-together.

I have a feeling the league Message Board is going to be enjoyable in this league. Have fun guys and THANKS again. I haven't built this community, YOU FOLKS HAVE. I just created the playground and the rules you need to follow on the playground. ALL OF YOU have created what Dan described above. GREAT JOB.

Wow, I'm slowly starting to shift gears back to baseball and the NBFC and this is one of the first threads that I read. Great post, Dan. Thanks for sharing. I tell everyone who is even remotely interested in fantasy baseball that the NBFC is the place to be. This thread simply reaffirms this.

What a writeup by one of our well known players. I echo Dan's comments. The NFBC and NFFC (let's not forget football!) are the best of the best. Why? Because the guys running these events love fantasy sports. They would be playing in this event if the weren't running it. I've been doing NFBC satelite leagues for 4 years after the collapse of my local league due to collusion between players and a commissioner who didn't do anything about it. No reason to go back to that stuff, and you never have to worry about these leagues here being run in an unfair way.

I have 2 daughters of my own...our prayers remain with you that Mia gives you and Roger the same light and excitement that mine give me.

Just wanted to give a heads up to those interested, met with the neurosurgeon and the oncologists today. They feel as if after the second surgery that they got everything this time. Now it is a matter of follow up appts. (which is the best news possible in this case). Mia is doing great and waiting to pull some draft slots out of a Pirates hat.(thats for Dan and the boys)
Greg my wife took this literally ( I can't wait until Las Vegas when we gather so many of you together and have a night to just hang out, reminisce and get to know each other better. This really will be a special time this year in Las Vegas and hopefully everyone can make it for a Thursday night get-together.)
We were planning on flying out on Friday but she now insists we come out on thursday to meet everybody and to say thanks.I think that is awesome (just trying to figure out how to explain to the rest of the guys what this chick is doing at this party).
