2nd and 3rd time around against a good lineup.
Still, the kid does ooze talent.
I was much more impressed by Fernandez despite the outcome. He was throwing against veteran big league hitters.
Cingrani vs. AAAA players.
So, what was especially impressive? The six hits, the three walks, the wild pitch or the five earned runs in four innings?
I admit I did not see the game (Braves were on), and the box is only part of the story. But what the box tells me is that a talented, young (no minor league seasoning above High A ball) pitcher got bent over a barrel by a good major league team. He definitely lost a few leaves from his laurel crown. That can get into the heads of younger players.
Cingrani certainly did not have the challenge Fernandez did. Still, on the Bowman thing Perry mentioned, I got the K's right for Fernandez (had a feeling it would be a short outing), but missed Cingrani by two.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
