There are a couple of teams that I have an interest in, that I'm benching Chris Davis and Adam Jones. Before thinking I've lost my fantasy dignity, hear me out.
Davis and Jones travel to one of the worst hitting venues this week in San Diego.
Worse than that, they have the dreaded Monday and Thursday off days.
Is there anything worse than our best hitters having a two day hitting week?
If it's our worst hitters, it makes for easy decisions.
When it happens to our best hitters, it's Hell.
Decisions like, what is better, Adam Jones for two days or Michael Brantley for four days?
Or two days of Adam Jones or three days of Morneau?
It's tough.
We are at that time of the year when we can start peeking at categories to see what we need the most. If lagging in sb's, Brantley may be the answer since Jones hasn't stolen a base since June 1.
Or maybe you're a 'more is more' type of owner and will play Brantley anyway.
Or maybe you're a Jones has 'gotten me this far' type of owner and you'll play with what brung you.
We all set our lineups before Monday and Friday's games. And most of us abhor the thought of daily moves. It would just be too much to expect everybody to be near a computer every day....even though we are.
Just the same, we don't want to feel like we HAVE to be near a computer and I get that.
So, what if we did daily moves twice a week?
Here's how it would work....
We set our lineups on Monday and Friday as we do now.
But, instead of just entering our 14 hitters in their positions for the week, it is broken down into each day.
Your Monday lineup would feature Brantley and other players who are starting that day.
Your Tuesday lineup will incorporate Jones and basically your best opportunities at numbers because like Wednesday, every player is playing.
Your Thursday lineup would have Jones back on the bench, while others who are playing fill your lineups.
This would also afford us new strategies. We can bench Mike Moustakas on Wednesday because he is facing Max Scherzer, a pitcher who has befuddled him and has him only batting .100, at two for 20 with no extra base hits.
Of course, this would only apply for hitters. If we had a daily play for pitchers, a rain out could screw everything up.
Rain outs would also interfere with hitters, but that happens already anyway.
It all sounds good to me. But, I'm also sure that some would not want to take the time each week to set up their lineups for daily use. And, I respect that.
And if you're like me, it just galls me to look at a schedule for a week and see our best hitters only playing two games Monday thru Thursday.
If 10 of you guys respond that you like the idea and would be in favor of it, respond here. If I get 10 that wanna do this for next year, I'll make an appeal to Greg on the top line for this new rule next year.
If not liking the idea, either voice your displeasure or simply do not respond at all.
It'd be a little more work for all of us, but I'm for more input and strategy into my lineups.
Friday through Sunday would have all of our players on the field, but we can pick the match-ups that most suit our players.
We could bench those hitters that are facing Scherzer and be able to see them the next day against Porcello.
It adds to the game for me and I like the different strategies it would bring.
Besides, it's a damn shame to see Adam Jones on the bench because of a stupid schedule maker.
