Draft Champions Overall Prize Pool

Post by Gekko » Mon Mar 03, 2014 5:10 pm

We seem to go through this every year, but how many leagues is the overall Draft Champions prize pool based on?

I believe the overall payback % is 80%, so for every 15 team league, $2,250 in revenue is generated. 80% payback is $1,800 per league. With league prizes of $1,000 for 1st, $375 for 2nd and $125 for 3rd ($1,500), it appears that every league contributes $300 to the overall leaderboard prize pool.

With the overall leaderboard prize pool @ $38,600 (see below), it stands to reason the prize pool is based on roughly 129 leagues ($38,600 / $300). If so, we are WAAAAAY over that this year. Let's post a new carrot out there and blow out the remaining week!!

overall leaderboard prize pool
1st $20,000
2nd $4,000
3rd $3,000
4th $2,500
5th $1,500
6th $1,000
7th $1,000
8th $750
9th $750
10th $500
11th $500
12th $500
13th $350
14th $350
15th $350
16th $350
17th $350
18th $350
19th $250
20th $250

You forgot to deduct the cost of Greg's brand new snowblower from your total.

Mark, let's just save time with this.
Here is the next new league....

1.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
2.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
3.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
4.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
5.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
6.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
7.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
8.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
9.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
10.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
11.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
12.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
13.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
14.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota
15.Josh Rasmussen, Plymouth, Minnesota

Interviewer: How do you feel going into this league, Josh?

Josh: A little scary. My chances of finishing last is as good as finishing first.

Interviewer: What about ROI?

Josh: I feel good about my chances of 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd. But the NFBC takes the juice, so I'll have to win money in the Overall to win anything.

Interviewer: Since you've drafted more than most, is the NFBC ADP, YOUR ADP?

Josh: It seems to like the same players I like. I feel guilty going TOO outside of the box.

Interviewer: You've drafted against everybody else, do you view yourself as your toughest competition?

Josh: I put my pants on one leg at a time, just like, ummm, me.

Interviewer: Will you be using the chat room to talk with yourself?

Josh: I see this comment being made ALOT..."Shoot! I was just thinking about taking him!"

Interviewer: Thanks and good luck...

Josh: Thanks, I'll need it! Tough competition!
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

It's funny. I didn't even do 20 leagues this year. Down from 30 last year. Would like to do more, but the most I will do is four at one time. That's what I have now, so no new leagues for me, unfortunately until these conclude

I'm in three right now. Most I've done at the same time. I don't care for it.
It's hard to talk in 3 leagues at once so I have to pick and choose...

Heck no! Youre the best of the best. Unless youre signing up under anonymous, I can only recall one league we did together. I can only hope to have the success that you've had in the format.

That being said, I will do it, when I see your name I will jump in.

I hope more money is dedicated to spots 2-20. Seems very heavy at the top spot.

I would prefer an additional $100 be kept in the league for $150's:

1st $1050
2nd $400
3rd $150

Agreed. If I had one bone to pick with NFBC prize structure, it's that the top is so top heavy. Others have brilliant teams, but don't get near the dollar'd respect. And, it seems to be that way in every competition.

Sounds like more "aiming for Silver" talk.
Next you'll suggest all top 20 finishers share the prize pool equally, like the payouts in the $400 Draft Champions leagues.
Maybe STATS should start giving Participation ribbons?

Boost the top prize if warranted by the number of entries but the structure is rock solid.

You know, every time you budget for these national contests you push the limits of what you think you can reach for number of teams while still being smart about it. Sometimes you hit perfectly, like we've done the last 9 years with the NFBC Main Event, and sometimes you fall short like we've done with the NFBC XII in recent years. The Online Championship is also hard to predict perfectly and in recent years demand exceeded expectations.

This year with the NFBC Draft Champions we had an aggressive plan and felt if we hit 130+ leagues it would be an amazing accomplishment. Little did we know how these DCs would dominate our lives for almost 4 straight months. It's been an amazing run and the final numbers will bear that out. We have to get through the drafting season before finalizing everything, so bear with us on all of this. But we hear what folks want and we'll make a sound decision when all is said and done. For now, thanks for the support here and next year we'll be ready in November again and we'll get this drafting season started as soon as possible. We've created a monster here and we're loving it.

Thanks all and good luck the rest of the way. The 8-hour portion of these leagues will definitely end with signups on Friday and we won't go past that. Last call for alcohol!!!

With the DC deadline in sight, It looks like there will be about a 10 percent bump above last year's record in the number of teams competing for the overall. Can we anticipate the prize pool going up, too?

Yes. We are already over the 164 leagues we expected for this one, but since we still have the DC Express Leagues to go and we'll still offer the 4-Hour DC option we don't know where we'll finish at this point. But 180+ leagues would definitely be a possibility and would add to the overall prize pool. This is an impossible contest to forecast exactly back in November and you guys just keep exceeding our expectations. Good job everyone and good luck this year.

Next year we will get the 4-Hour option as a pulldown window under the Draft Champions link and I believe that will be a more popular option going forward, which could lead to 200+ leagues in 2016. We'll keep improving this format for you. Thanks all.
