Post Season HoldEm - Mock Contest

Post by Deadheadz » Thu Oct 06, 2016 10:29 am

.

Final Leaderboard

MarkNYM2 1000.07
MarkNYM1 936.88
Steveymer 916.77
Deadheadz 904.3
MarkNYM3 885.12
Chimpat 663.18

Please let me know if you have totals that differ from these.

Let's play it out. Post your picks for bragging rights only.

So long as it's not stepping on the toes of the NFBC, I'd like to offer my time to do a spreadsheet tracking of the teams for managers who are interested in seeing how their lineups would shake out against competition.

Let's welcome anyone to post their lineups and we'll run a mock contest just for bragging rights.
If we keep up the interest in the game it could make a difference in whether the product is successful next year.

Here's my single roster. Can yours outscore mine?

I'm in, and thanks for offering! Are lineups still viewable somehow? If not, it may be that few people have evidence of them. My screenshot thingy wasn't working so I just took pictures with my phone so I could dream of all the money I almost certainly would have won. It looks like the files are too big to attach, but I put them up on Google Drive, so hopefully that works.

As you'll see there, roster was:
C: Lucroy
1B: Rizzo
2B: Rendon
3B: Beltre
SS: Seager
OF: Trumbo, Bautista, Fowler, J. Ramirez
UT: Ortiz

P: Bumgarner, Darvish, Kershaw, Lester, Syndegaard, Jansen

Thanks for sharing your picks.
As there are no prizes we will be on the honor system but I'd like to take lineup submissions no later than the end of the first round. I'm guessing anyone who wants to take part won't wait that long.

Once I've got picks from a few people I'll post the spreadsheet on Google Docs too.
Maybe this thread can have a leaderboard in the top post just to make it easier to follow.

Thanks for taking this on. I had 3 entries, I'd like to play along but might be obnoxious for me to ask you to put 3 teams in.

As an aside, as much as I'd like to do another one of these for real in the future, if I don't see the word "guaranteed" in the contest description, I'm not gonna risk it. I'm not trying to use my time to be part of some kind of litmus test for the NFBC to gauge level of interest. Time is money.

Noted. Everybody, Mark Evans will not be playing again unless he sees "guaranteed" in the contests description because for the sixth time his time is very valuable and he doesn't care if a company would lose money on the deal just so everyone knows how affected he is by the cancellation of this post-season contest and how much of his valuable time was lost....as an aside, he has failed to note that everyone else lost valuable time picking teams too, but none of whom have taken to piss and moan about it continuously & repeatedly like a child who had their beloved binky taken away.

I never said or implied, nor do I feel that my time is more valuable than anyone else's.

I didn't like the way this was handled, so I voiced it. Not sure how that offends you personally, or why it would. I dont appreciate you coming at me personally with insults, and since I don't even know you, I won't stoop to that.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

I guess that is the difference in the people that go to live events and meet Greg and Tom in person. Not coming at you, but I worked on 21 teams right before the deadline to try and help them fill it and even had trouble with it saving my lineups. So when it got cancelled, it sucked but fully understood their position. They can't call 200 owners in 90 minutes to let them know prize money would be less and guarantee you that people would have dropped out because of it. They can't lose 10k every year on a contest either. I'd rather them cancel a contest and be here next year to play then run a contest and lose money and have the company fold. Ask some people in here what they think about contests that fold with people's money. It isn't a good thing when that happens and at least the NFBC gives us a platform to play year after year.

Doctor Who, thanks for approaching this in a level-headed manner. I'm not sure what you're saying though...it sounds like you think no one should complain either? I could have easily emailed my complaints and not posted them here but I figured this is a community that would appreciate hearing people's opinions.

.

When you go into a poker tournament they often have a guaranteed prize based on around 50% of expected turnout. If they get a lot of players the rules allow for the prizes to exceed the guarantee.

Tom suggested we lower the prize AND cap the entries at 200. I'm not sure why you'd cap the number of entries unless it's because you don't want the hassle of reworking the prize structure.

Why not a lowball $10,000 prize for 1st place with a stipulation that X entries must be sold? Then have a sliding scale that ramps up the prizes for every additional 50 entries.
This way excitement has a chance to build if the pot grows.

With a pre-published scale for prizes NFBC might actually make a little money if the number of entries goes over 200 but falls short of 250.

But I'll agree that it's helpful to have a hard number where a failure to sign up that many entries would cancel the contest.

Just tallied my score through yesterday's games at got 123.38. I'm not great at spreadsheets, so I may have messed something up, but can't seem to find an error so thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for pointing this out.
It turns out I did a bad copy/paste on some of the pitcher formulas and the LAD and WAS guys were being counted twice.

I've corrected the math and added in the game from today.
Here are the new standings.

Chimpat 120.35
