Auction Strategy
Auction Strategy
Hey guys just uploaded my favorite video to date and a subject that is near and dear to my heart which is auction strategy. I have a good anecdote from my auction championship draft in New York last year. Check it out and let me know your thoughts

Re: Auction Strategy
Just do not use my strategy from last year:
1) try not to spend more than $20 on a player.
2) leave 7.5% of your budget on the floor because you screw up.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Hahahahahha, almost every time I've heard somebody mention trying that strategy exactly what you said happens. It's too hard to predict what guys will go for I thinkEdwards Kings wrote:Just do not use my strategy from last year:

Re: Auction Strategy
IMO, the better the competition, the tougher it is to run a spread-the-risk strategy. It's difficult to land enough bargains to really make it work.Edwards Kings wrote:Just do not use my strategy from last year:

Re: Auction Strategy
Yes it is. Jeff Dobies did it very well. My biggest issue besides my not staying in on a couple of players late was three of my four biggest spends were Wade Davis, Carlos Gomez, and Sonny Gray!Yah Mule wrote:IMO, the better the competition, the tougher it is to run a spread-the-risk strategy. Re: Auction Strategy
While I do think I could win this league, not a smart play for me. I need to beat Randy Levine in my arbitration case this year and then I'll be up.Gekko wrote:no need to wait until next year. i'll be in NYC this year participating in an auction league. See below in bold.

Follow up auction strategy video posted today. Today I debunk one of the dumbest misnomers about auction drafts that even "experts" believe.

While I don't toe the CBS party line about keeping extra money back for the end of an auction, I'll admit I've had more than one auction where it seems like everyone forgot about a significant player who was either injured or for some other reason was off the radar. Everyone has just $1 left and some guy nominates a Roy Oswalt or someone we all forgot about and gets a steal of a deal because no one can outbid him. Does it really matter by the end of the season? Probably not.

Re: Auction Strategy
Right, another thing I paid attention to last year was cheap guys that only qualified at utility that were maybe 6 to 8 dollar players and see if I could sneak them for a dollar if everybody else filled up their utility. More of a fallback strategy than doing it on purpose thoughDeadheadz wrote:Good video.Bjs2025 wrote:Follow up auction strategy video posted today.
