An 'Expert' Of the Worst Kind

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Tue Jun 13, 2017 8:20 am

'Jose Pirela went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored from the leadoff spot Monday.
Pirela is 13-for-26 since his callup. He'll have no lasting value in mixed leagues, but it's worth using him while he's hot and batting at the top of the order.'

What a stupid write-up.
Pirela has been summarily dismissed by this writer. This writer gives absolutely no reasoning for his opinion, which makes me think he is one of those pompous, arrogant dudes
(Dave, I sincerely hope you didn't write this drivel, I think you're better than that :D )
that thinks because he has an audience that he knows more than anybody in that audience, ie, the smartest man in the room.

One thing this year has taught us all, is how little we know in what will happen once the season unfolds.
Pirela hit the FAAB this past Sunday in the NFBC. His bids ranged from $1 to $417.
In FAAB parlance, that means we have no friggin clue whether Pirela will succeed or not.
But this guy KNOWS.

'No long lasting value'

Tell us that Pirela has been in the minor leagues for 11 years with only cups of coffee with the Yankees.
Tell us that Pirela's minor league seasons were mediocre and that Pirela showed not much more than being a utility player at the top level.
Is this your reasoning for your statements?
If so, tell us!
At the same time, write that Pirela has been hitting everything in sight THIS YEAR.
Be informative.
Not arrogant as if you know everything that will happen with Pirela's year.
You have no more answers for this year than any other fantasy enthusiast.
You wrote it like an 'expert', instead of a writer.
There are no 'experts' in fantasy baseball..
There are those that give good reasoning and explanations for their opinions (as writers usually do).
And those that think they're 'experts', simply because they have our attention.
This one falls under the latter.

1) pretty sure EVERYONE is worth using while they are hot. 2) pretty sure NO ONE knows when that hot streak will end. all the guys that picked up zunino when he got called back up are pretty happy.

Dan, this write-up is putting into words my visceral reaction when I read such opinions. 8-)

Hopefully this gets passed around in the rotoworld "office". Don't overstep your knowledge and don't underestimate your readers, Mr. Blurb writer. :P

And one week later....we get this....

'Jose Pirela launched a leadoff home run as the Padres fell to the Cubs on Monday.
Pirela got the game started with a bang, launching a Jon Lester offering over the wall in center field. He also singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-4. Pirela has been a monster atop the Padres' lineup, slashing .354/.436/.625 with three homers and eight RBI since arriving in San Diego.'

Now, he's a 'monster'. :D

This is a smarter writer who writes in the present instead of a quick, useless opinion of the future.
