Taking a step back

Post by Gordon Gekko » Tue May 22, 2007 4:49 pm

I’m an emotional person as some of you know, and sometimes I get too fired up. After talking with some people I respect (Greg included) as well as reflecting over the entire situation that unfolded, I want to apologize to Greg for negative comments I made about him or his events.

Sometimes he needs to make tough calls and there will be winners and unfortunately there will be losers. I didn’t handle being the loser very well, and while I (and others) strongly disagree with a ruling Greg recently made, my approach to resolving the differences somehow went off course.

Again, sorry Greg and sorry to the NFBC participants that had to endure me being a loser.

Gekko,

I understand why you disagree with the decision. Personally, I think the decision to use pinch hitting as means to count towards UTIL are no good. Hopefully this will help put an end to that.

I see you are going for $100K and understand the emotion. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't take offense to your posts. (I don't always agree, but never have a problem with you or anyone voicing their opinion.)

I'm sure this is something Greg wishes was a non-issue. (If only he didn't use a metal glove that balls apparently clunk off of.)

Anyway, I know we went back and forth when you first posted the Cust situation. I hope you too, didn't take offense.

I know why you felt the way you did, but to me with him listed and bid on as an OF, my opinion was he should remain in OF.

Good luck to you in your quest for the money.

And Gekko, I hope to see you participate in the NFFC!

One of the hardest things I had to learn in my 40 years was to not react and make decisions while my emotions were in control of me and not my clear, calm thoughts. I usually found myself regretting what I said later.
Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.” Isaiah 63:1

Gekko, I forgive you. Not like you ever cut me slack though.

I'm happy to report that all's well that end's well. Mark Srebro gave me a call this morning to apologize personally and admitted that he went too far with his complaint about my NFBC ruling. I accepted his apology and we both agreed that what has happened is done with and over.

In fact, I gladly welcomed him back to the National Fantasy Football Championship after he took his case to those Message Boards and since he won two free entries last year by winning two NFFC Satellite Leagues we had to come to a resolution on how to compensate him. He agreed to come back to the NFFC's main event if he could and to draft in New York on Saturday, Sept. 1st. I, of course, accepted as that's what he won. So he's back on the signup list and will definitely be fielding his own NFFC team in 2007 in New York.

If there is one thing I know about this whole episode it's that Mark is DRIVEN to be the first two-sport national champion (he won the NFFC in 2004) and he has put in countless hours of time this year to win the NFBC title and the $100,000 grand prize. His team is currently third overall out of 375 teams and he became obsessed with the fact that one of our rules may have not been interpreted correctly. He had every right to inquire about this rule and to get a correct analysis from me. Admittedly -- by him and me -- he went about it the wrong way while I was in Los Angeles and he took his case to the public without giving me a call. I think one phone call on Monday would have resolved this, but that is past history.

He is welcome back to the NFFC -- actually, he never left -- and we look forward to our 2004 co-champ returning to try and become the first two-time NFFC champ. In the meantime, he is in the running for a different $100,000 grand prize and the chance to be the industry's first two-sport national champion. We wish him best of luck there.

I'm glad this is resolved and I'm glad he's returning in 2007. New York is his draft destination as he has some things at home to make sure are resolved and we wish him best of luck with that as well.

I have no hard feelings and like I've said before, the Cust case just makes it more pertinent for Tom and I to close every conceivable loophole there is when it comes to player eligibility. We honestly felt we had it, but obviously we didn't thanks to previous designations. We are taking steps already to make our rules even tighter. So hopefully all of this will make the NFBC better.

All families have disputes. This one has been resolved. Good luck Mark the rest of the way in the NFBC and Tom will buy the first round of drinks in New York on Sept. 1st!! :D

Glad to see that one of the ORIGINALS has reconsidered his initial impulse. WE have built something very special with both the NFBC & NFFC with Greg leading the way. While I OFTEN ;) disagree with some of GG's methods and approach here on the boards, I'm happy he came around.

A small message for all of us that no one person is bigger than the whole event. We are lucky to have Greg and co. calling the shots.

I've had the chance to go against Mark Srebro in football and meet him in person in Baltimore. Found him to be a stand up guy. From a person that works in Law Enforcement, that is the highest praise I can share about a person.

Hope for a chance to kick your ass soon in one of the upcoming football leagues GG, enough with the bouquets! ;)
